I think the problem with the scene in Toronto is the complete lack of creativity, almost entirely. There's a few (and I mean a FEW) DJ's out there right now that impress me, whereas most others just do the same thing. They play the same sound, same tunes, to the same mindless crowd. It blows me away how there's SO MUCH great music out there, and practically every DJ in Toronto feels compelled to play the same crowd-pleasing sound. The hard, hands-up-in-the-air house sound non-stop. It's getting to the point where I'm sick of partying because there's nothing new out there.
Some people will say "I don't care as long as the beat is good and I'm dancing then everythings great!!!11!!". Thats great. There's nothing with having a good time, but if that's all you're expecting out of a DJ then please, go to a top 40 club because there's no difference between spinning random house tunes and random top 40 tunes. What always set the underground scene apart from the commercial one is the passion behind it. The strive to move music forward and not ride the same formula the whole time...and unfortunately, that mentality in Toronto seems to be a lost one, because most people don't demand anything more out of DJ's except "TUNES"
