Ok first now I got the chance to listen to the melodies.
Hahaha, first of all --> This is an incredible simple melody to produce so why on hell use a preset-arpeggio?!?!?! That just pisses me off. I've cooporated with many artists who uses presets and once I realise it, I stop the cooporation immediately. It's just too ejay-ish!!! Make your own melodies god dammit Second of all --> These melodies aren't similar. The first one (the original) has more chord-changes and different ones as well. And imo is far much better. I wouldn't mind remixing it actually, cuz the chord-changes are beautiful! Leon's melody isn't quite as complex. And the melody-pattern is similar, but not exact the same.
Yes, they sound similar. Mainly because they both has the same synth-sound.

haha man that's the whole point about it
we made a banging club track (we think so tho) and added this breakdown (which i called cheesy and fluffy earlier on), we made it very simple, using an arp preset (actually its the first time i used any preset which i didnt even change after all). So it was just: hit some chords, arp it, and add it to the breakdown, and lets see. The mighty ducks track is a club track, its for the dancefloors, and its kinda gimmick like, this arp preset being one of the gimmicks. And it isnt inspired by anything, maybe just by what we would call 'standard trance'.
So its not about that we thought to have found a brilliant melody, cause we dont think it is. Like i said, its a gimmick, and therefor we think it works. Total contrast to the beats and the oldschool stabs.
