Thumbs down

I give this year a big thumbs down.

I actually haven't heard any recent stuff.

2006 was a good year for music. Trance still offers many nice tunes, especially the sounds from Intuition-Crew was enormous tis year. Also Anjunabeats was way better then last year, some really top tunes. Biggest dissapointment of the year were Armin & Armada. ASOT went pants tis year and second half of the year Armada hadnt any good tune anyway. Apart from Trance Techno really offers tons of good records. Especially da swedish cru around Adam Beyer releases tons of monsterz.
Anyway the big thing I found this year were Hardcore Breakz. Ther are many people who are givin the old sounds from 91-93 new life by refinding this sound. I think it is the start of sumthing big.

If any epic producers even think of "reinterpreting" neotrance, it's time to start mailing the anthrax.

I think my favorite set of the year was Sven at Mysteryland.

We can't expect a brilliant set in terms of mix, but the track selection is definitely there, and represents 2006.

I am going to flame this part though.

The Pastaboys mix should never have been pressed to vinyl; it strips away all the depth and mystery that makes Rej what it is, recasting it as paper-thin pop house. Sort of like what Victor Calderone does to every track he touches.

Hundred Birds is a little better than that, but fails to capture the deep quality that makes Rej such a great production, and isn't a patch on the original.

So.Much.Music.

2006 was the year of the digital label. Two of my favourite tunes of the year were digital only releases. There's a lot more average releases overall it seems, but there were plenty of amazing tunes as well.

I really agree about genres coming together - genre labels seem less useful than they did a year ago. This is also a good thing.

Also neo-trance, wtf?
