too absurd for a bill when it is the parent's prerogative to spank a child as a form of discipline at times.

It's commonplace in a latin household to get smacked or a spanking, especially if you backtalk. It's not abuse if it's a smack or spanking, but that's the extent of it all. But, there is usually more respect for elders in a latin household. And none of the people I know (family, friends) grew up damged or don't have a great relationship with their parents.

A Brazilian kid, 18 years old, lived with us for a couple days after being asked by some aquaintance of a friend of my mothers, or something like that, I can't remember. He was going to school up here for a while. He was from Rio, and my mother and him traded off stories of the punishments bestowed on them from their parents from when they were little. Had a lot in commmon growing up, but one thing they do agree on is kids in the US walk all over their parents and don't respect their elders. And he isn't angry or wounded by those few experiences, and has a great relationship with his parents, as does my mother.

every kid i know who comes from a pussy "no spanking" family has turned out to be a complete little shit.

dogs, monkeys, basically every other animal known to man all physically punish their young in some way. we're just like every other animal. what makes you think you're so smart you don't need to?

it's part of being a responsible parent, stop being pansies. the only other option is emotional punishment, and thats a great way to go if you want a crackhead for a child.
