And I certainly don't claim to be one.

When I talk about For An Angel I refer to the E-Werk mix. The 45RPM original isn't anything remarkable, especially not in 1994.

I should also note, while my name is being tossed around as resident For An Angel fan, that I draw a distinction between favorite and best. The first is informed by personal preference, whereas the latter refers to a broader opinion shared by experienced listeners. Under those definitions, For An Angel (E-Werk Mix) isn't remotely the "best" of trance in 1998, much less best in any wider sense. But it's a good track, and remains special to me.

Yeah, looks like we're on about different things entirely. Not that the reworked mix is any good either.

I wonder how many more pages this could have gone on.

Oh, and about the other branch of the discussion:

Why hasn't trance "moved on"? I blame lack of creativity and the experimental box-up of software production.

As to why veteran producers have fallen prey to pathetic standards, if they haven't moved to other styles, I don't have an answer.

partly that. although i'd say mainly because of the old "if it aint broke, don't fix it" argument

software production only really crossed into the mainstream in around 2002 or thereabouts, and trance hadn't exactly moved on that much for several years prior

For goodness sakes there is new trance everywhere. At this moment I am listening to Holdens balance 005 and loving it. I know its not the newest album (now 3 years old i think) but its def. post 99-02 epic stuff thats creative and different sounding. Reading these forums you'd think trance was going extinct.

Are you fucking kidding me? I know from experience that you're one of the most stereotypical trancekiddies on this forum.

Remember back in the old days, when we used to have long-winded arguments, and you claimed anthem trance was sooo awesome?
