OK everyone...here's my review of Armada All Night. It's been over two weeks ago and I still can't get over how awesome this night was!
-----
March 24th was going to possibly be my last night of clubbing for WMC 2007. I was intrigued when I found out about the Armada All Night party. Armin van Buuren and Markus Schulz by themselves would make a great night. I'd seen Armin and Markus quite a few times @ GLOW and I was never disappointed. What really convinced me to buy tickets was the addition of Rank 1 to the night's line-up. I'd always heard about Rank 1's incredible live sets in Europe. I definitely wasn't going to miss out on Rank 1! The Armada party would turn out to be an amazing night!
I finally made it to Twilo around 11 PM, about a 15 minute walk from my hotel. As soon as I walked into the main room, I was impressed by Twilo! The more I explored this place, there was no doubt that Twilo was a superior venue than Space or FUR.
Now, on the music. Matthew Dekay was spinning when I arrived to Twilo. I wasn't terribly interested by Dekay's electro/housey style, so I went to the bar on the left and had Svedka on the rocks. Soon after, I caught with DarkAngel, MJM, and a few other TranceAddicts. I even bumped into Armin van Buuren and Markus Schulz (nice surprise!). I was even happier when I caught up with my friend Laura from Finland, who I had not seen since Ferry Corsten's gig @ Crobar Miami the year before!
Armin van Buuren finally went around 12:30 AM. The main room was packed, although not as ridiculously packed as Armin's last two appearances at GLOW. I hung out near the bar to the left, enjoying the company of friends and some Ketel One on the rocks. Armin's three hour set turned out to be, as described by DarkAngel, masterfully crafted. Armin stuck to spinning nothing but trance (thank God!). Armin's set was as just as amazing as his sets @ GLOW in December 2004, April 2005, and April 2006. Armin closed his great set with Way Out West - Mindcircus (G&D remix). That was awesome!
Markus Schulz was next at 3:30 AM and went on to spin a bangin' set! As much as I wanted to go back out and dance, the main floor was packed. I wasn't sure for awhile if I would be able to stick around for Rank 1. I was much happier in the downstairs VIP lounge hanging out with Laura, Christie, and a few other friends. A little water and 3 RedBull/Stoli got me recharged by the end of Markus Schulz's set. It was awesome hearing Without You Near and Never Be The Same!!
Piet Bervoets of Rank 1 took over at 6 AM and proceeded to destroy! I immediately ran back to the dance floor with my friend Christie and we were not disappointed by Rank 1's energetic style of trance. It was absolutely phenomenal! There was definitely not a dull moment! It was awesome when Rank 1 dropped Life Less Ordinary, Cosmic Gate - Analog Feel and Ferry Corsten - Beautiful!!! I also loved hearing This World Is Watching Me! The best was yet to come! I went absolutely crazy when Rank 1 dropped Brairwave! I was stunned and I was overwhelmed by absolute happiness! Rank 1 continued to amaze until 8 AM, keeping the dance floor fairly packed till the end. To everyone's surprise, Piet returned for 4 encores! It was after 8 AM, and I couldn't believe Piet dropped System F - Out The Blue and 3 Drives - Greece 2000! There was no better way to close out a phenomenal set! Somehow, I still had the energy to dance until Rank 1 closed out the Armada party at 8:30 AM. I was tired and sore as I walked back to my hotel. Still, it was so worth it! Nothing made me happier than finally experiencing the awesomeness of Rank 1!
Rank 1's set @ Twilo was the closest thing to a magical experience at this WMC! All in all...there couldn't have been a better end to my WMC experience...really! It was hands down one of the best trance sets I've ever experienced! I would love to see Rank 1 again!
Last but not least...shoutouts to a few TAs...Christie (hope to see you back in DC sometime this spring), DarkAngel, MJM, SweetCandy Girl, GipsyGirl, Ambercita, Suzy Solar, Lil B, Wenddy, Boomer and Damon!
Cheers!
