DJ worship is wats wrong with the electronic music scene. People have stopped going to parties to party. Electronic music parties have become rock concerts and DJs have become rock stars. This is all well and good until you have the revelation that the guy up on the stage IS PLAYING RECORDS. Other people's music for the most part too. This is especially true when it comes to Digweed, a DJ who plays 'progressive' what does this 'progressive' mean anyway? progressive house? progressive trance, breaks, progressive R&B? when the fuck did progressive become its own monolithic genre? And then this progressive DJ / inventor of this brand new progressive music goes and says shit like 'me and Sasha are paving the way for the future' Dear John Digweed, youre PLAYING RECORDS of other people's music, you self important, stuck up progressive slag. Its the people that produce the music you play that are paving the way for your future.
And people eat this shit up, thats what puzzles me, worship a dude for playing records. And they say shit like his work is like higher art, and requires you to really pay attention to appreciate it. I'm not going to a party to pay close attention and be educated and revel in the brilliance that Digweed has in playing other people's music. I'm going to enjoy the party. And in essence, a DJ's job is to make the party better with the music he or she plays, and Digweed fails at this job, because first of all the energy he brings is inappropriate for a party. He looks like he doesnt want to be there. And his style can be accurately described as purely pretentious. I saw him in Toronto 9 days ago and I was bored off my ass until a scuffle occurred with security because my buddy chucked a crumpled piece of paper at Digweed's head.
