| quote: | | damn boy all I can say is you're lucky you didn't learn on technics because as a perfectionist you'd be forced to ride the pitch which in essence would mean you'd have to keep a hand on the pitch fader at all times try to EQ doing that junior |
This is why I need an extra pair of hands: ptich ride BOTH tables and EQ BOTH tracks.
Which is what I do. It sucks ass, and the fact that I bought used tables, that drift starts to become a problem when your trying to maintain 2-4 minute mixes. Add to that, a shitty mixer, improper monitoring conditions(speakers are on the same table as the rest of the gear...not enough open space between walls and speakers etc..), broken headphones, and it's not fun to mix anymore. It also becomes very discouraging to finish a mix that you started recording, and realize that your beats aren't perfectly locked. Which is why I actually post only 1 out of 50 or so mixes every now and then, because I'm not satisfied with how my equipment holds up(drifting, clipping, etc...). Now, it's gotten to the point where I have trouble spinning on new technics with minimal drift without warming up a little!
But I still do it, because it's the skill and technique(no pun intended) developed that matters, not the equipment. It is impossible to match beats 100.0% accurately, but it is 99.9% of the time. So keep practicing, fuck the haters, and be realistic: if you can't do it anywhere else on top of your CDJs, then you've got other issues to consider, like wasting time and money. No offense, but the truth is the truth.
