Re: Tipping: When and when not to?

I remember something similar happened at the Guvernment at Labour of Love, except the guy tipped but the bartender still flipped out because the tip was too small or something. I was pretty shocked, hopefully one of these days she'll get a good cock slapping for being such a c*nt.

Last week I went to this Pourhouse (100+ beers on tap). It was a Thursday so as expected, it was a little busy. Me and my buddy sat by the bar, fairly close to the cash register and drink fridge. We ordered a sampler round of 6 different beers (6 half pint glasses with a different beer each).

After we were served those samplers, the bartender only came up to us once more asking if we need anything. That's when I asked for a menu, which should've been a clear sign that I intend on ordering food. After I got that menu the bitch never once came by to ask if we wanted anything, even though she had to pass by us every single time she needed to use the cash register or get beer from the fridge. We even sat there for about 15 minutes with our glasses empty.

Finally, as she was busy socializing and acting like a whore with her friends, I told her to get me the bill, which I ended up paying for with as much change as possible with the slight hope that all of that shit will fall out and she'll spend a few minutes picking it up.

Moral of the story? Don't tip for shitty service.

I tip anywhere from 10-25% based on how good the service is: 10% for shitty service, 15% for normal service, 20% excellent service, and 25% if the server is hot.

The IRS and/or state taxes the server's income based on the assumption that the server makes an average tip of 8% on total sales, so they are more than compensated if you tip them 10%.

in my country most places already have a 10% service charge added to the bill so theres actually no need to tip.

but having experience in the service industry before. .. i still tip anyways.

I hate those tip jars! It is their job, they get a wage, why should I have to tip them for doing their job. And to leave a tip jar out is just rude.

I tip my bartenders all the time and I tip big. Why? They remember you then pour your drinks stronger and don't charge as much. At one club I go to the same bartender EVERYTIME and he always remembers me. I get two vodka redbulls, he gives me top shelf vodka, pours strong, and charges me 7 dollars total. They're normally 9 dollars a piece for bottom shelf vodka. I give him 5 or 6 dollar tips everytime. I go to another bartender, they play by the rules charge me correct price pour my drink like shit and they get a buck or two.

I ignore that shit. If youre making minimum wage or more, and you arent delivering me something where you have to pay for your own gas, then EFF THAT.

As far as bars and clubs, I usually open a tab and then work it out that way. When I have cash I throw in 5 bucks at the beginning and then I dont tip the rest of the night.

Then again, its rare I get through more than 3 or 4 drinks at any one bar or club.

I'd say if you're going back to the same people, hairdresser, bartender, etc...you should tip a little more anyway. Build up a good rapport and they'll treat you better
