Horrible stuff, it kills you. Luckily its use in the UK is relatively limited but it still happens.

Actually it really doesn't kill you at all... unless you are mixing it with copious amounts of booze or it is a bad batch and is not GHB. GHB by itself, not spiked isn't bad for you at all in regulardoses, in some cases even good for you. Being that G is so new to the UK you guys have probably developed some pre-emptive notions on what G is and what it can and can't do but over in Canada, G has apparently been a part of the club scene for years...

And in Montreal, people have learned how to party through wipeouts and crashes. It's the G-tards who go all night here... along with the speed heads!

Ahh the Montreal nightlife scene... I don't even want to get into how drug riddled our club scene (as a whole, EDM or not) really is, not that I mind really, the parties are usually crazier and it's the fucked up ones who dance the most

Nah, GHB has been around for Donkey's years here. Not to mention that the Brittish are some of the biggest cainers in the world. The majority of people I see week in week out are absolutely off their tits. And it's been this way for about 20 odd years.

Cheers
Nem

This is my opinion on this subject. Or what I have learned. Crowd involvement and interaction is key. Along show you own love as well. Have fun that what music and dancing is for. When or if my time in spotlight ever happens i have ideas what I'm going to do to entertain the crowd. Because if the crowd loves you. You'll always be booked and never have to worry about gigs. mixing skills is a lost art i feel. i remember watching djs at raves in 90's they were mixing their asses off. Today's dj not as involved i feel. some are very some you can't see any emotion on their face. technology i embrace it i feel the more unique a set can get the better, wither it be a laptop or efx machine, I'm converting to digital from vinyl as we speak and use a mac book pro as well. the more i can carry with me to a gig the better i feel. Make the crowd's night one they never forget.

For me it always comes down to track selection and reading the mood of the night. Technical skill is required up to a point, but after you get to a decent enough skill level everything above that is just icing on the cake. There's a breaks DJ here who won the local competition last year. He's extremely talented technically, but I just can't stand to listen to him anymore. I used to enjoy his sets, but unfortunately he tends to play a lot of the same shit week in-week out. It gets old.

pleasing the crowd...technically you can have poor track selection and still please a crowd...plus really really talented dj's who can scratch and do all these tricks can get booed off (and i have seen it).

- pleasing the crowd?

- track selection?
- advanced dj'ing (looping, effects, etc.)?
- anything else I obviously missed

I don't if this makes any sense, but if it did, I'd have to choose 'pleasing the crowd' first and fore-most.

Pleasing the crowd is the most important thing of your job!
