Trance (Armin, Fery Corstin, Tiesto) -----> Epic Trance (Andy Moor, O'Callaghan, Solar Stone) ----> Psychedelic (Infected Mushroom, Astrix) ----> Drum n' Bass (Pendulum) ----> Minimal (Booka Shade, Trentemøller) -----> House/Electro House/Techno

Kind of gone everywhere haha but I listen to everything I have collected over the years still

I won't go into the 90's. Although I heard a good amount of euro dance, freestyle and a few cheese trance tracks, they weren't anything that really made me want to explore EDM.

01-03 Darude-Sandstorm, Miss Jane-Fine Day, Paul van Dyk-Another Way, Sasha-Expander, Oakenfold-Southern Sun. From a short-lived liking to cheesey trance, to a brief exploration of good epic and melodic trance. I was only scratching the surface then, but it had me interested. Most notable albums for me at the time were Paul van Dyk-Out there and Back, and Sasha-Airdrawndagger.

2004 Went to my first rave massive and changed everything for me. I now had a deep thirst and desire for trance. Visited message boards and kept up with current releases. I changed from Melodic to Progressive that year. So many good titles to mention: MK-S vs Robert Nickson-Fallback, Tilt-The World Doesn't Know, Starkid-Crayons (Leama and Moor Remix), Steve May-Open Day (Luke Chable Remix) and Michael Burns-Forwards. 2004 is probably my favorite year for exploring EDM and mainly progressive trance.

2005 Went to more rave undergrounds. The first and second SF Love Parades would become unforgettable for me. Never liked happy hardcore, but persistent listening to many of the classics at parties had the genre grow on me. I started losing much of my interest in epic/uplifting trance and focused more on progressive, then house in the summer. 2005 was a party year for me, so it also exposed me to drum n bass, techno, hardstyle, gabber, psytrance, and breakbeats. By end of 2005 I was checking out a little bit of everything, including some older trance classics, but primarily progressive (trance, breaks and house). Titles worth mentioning: Andy Moor-Halcyon, Mark Otten-So Serene, Jacob Todd-Nothing is Real, Tonepushers-Daydreamer (Bill Hammel Remix), Aphex Twin-Acrid Avid Shred, Hyper-Outsider, Cut and Run-King of the Bongo, David West-Envy, Li Kwan-Point Zero, Thrillseekers-Synaethasia, Jose Amnesia-The Eternal (Pulser Remix), and Niklas Harding-Ice Beach. (Yeah I was pretty sporadic that year)

2006 to present Still very sporadic. Went into IDM, Chill-out, psy-dub, deep house, minimal, and tech. My drug use grew, so a desire for strange, moody, trippy tracks were primarily on the agenda. Progressive house still stayed as my main love. I just recently gotten used to the new electro sound, but I still have a longing for dreamy 2004 prog. I'm not quite sure where else to go now, but I am thinking about dubstep. I will probably continue exploring EDM for at least 3 more years. Some excellent tracks played while tripping: Boards of Canada-1969, Digital Science-Snowie White, Khetzal-Avasari, Flexitones-The Lost Frontier, Bluetech-7th Phase Dub, Silent Hill-24 Covers, Freeform Five-No More Conversations (Mylo Remix), Secede-Vega Libre and Bad Loop-Lumme

Man, EDM has treated me well.

90-93 = Rave compilations, Prodigy, Altern 8 etc

94-97 = House, Fantazia compilations, some of which featured trance which I preferred but didn't know what it was called. Also I enjoyed Euro Dance.

97+ = Got into the Gatecrasher scene, started going clubbing to random stuff as I found more and more EDM (DnB, Speed Garage etc).

2000+ = Started liking deeper and deeper stuff. Steve Lawler, Timo Maas etc. Also BXR / Nukleuz stuff rocked my world.

2007 = I enjoy most EDM, yes even trance although I agree there is far too much forumalic rubbish pushed out each week, and I miss the days of only skilled producers releasing tracks on labels you could bank on EVERY SINGLE RELEASE being awesome. Now I adore the sounds of Deadmau5, Dusty Kid, DJs like Micah, Woolford, Kosmas Epsilon, Luke Fair, Steve Porter, Desyn Masiello etc etc

For me, it was

late 80s to early 90s - alternative rock & new wave. Bands like Depeche Mode, The Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, Bolshoi, Duran Duran

mid 90s - mostly cheesy euro house sounds. I was more into hip hop and alt rock at the time.

97-00 - trance and DJs like Tiesto, PVD, Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, Sasha, Digweed.

01 - 03 - progressive house, trance, electroclash. I think Digweed's LA GU changed the sound and made trance a dirty word. Same DJs, but now adding guys like Nick Warren, Dave Seaman, Anthony Pappa.

04 - 05 Electrohouse, progressive house, trance. Same DJs as before.

06-07 - Progressive House, Techno, Tech house, trance.

I guess like most I've changed with the styles, but always kept my ears out for good trance and progressive house. I still listen to 80's alternative on Sirius 1st wave.
