yeah, while it's more here, things cost a lot & it's hard with all taxes & bills to get even for so many people. then u get the bastards profiting from selling credit to people who can't afford it & it gets worse.

that rings a bell. The role of minimum wage is another entire discussion in which [I now know, due to Clovis's thread] no one on this board is going to agree with me.

I don't care who made it, they still brought it to me.

-for the ones who complain that they don't get paid a lot fo waiting tables...All you're doing is taking my order, serving food and checking up on me, I don't see why you should be paid a lot to begin with. It's the lowest of low paying jobs and it's like that for a reason.

lol totally.. would be fun to see how waiters react when billionaires or celebrities walk into a restaurant...

and besides, atleast 99% of waiters , bartenders etc. are only giving you that smile and checking up on you to get those couple of extra bucks in tips...a lot of them dont have a clue about proper customer service and its pretty easy to see that they are just checking up on you as a mere formality.. but some waiters have been excellent and actually take the time out to have a quick chat and share a joke which is a big plus if the customer isnt busy with something else .. try not tipping them and see if you get served the next time ... if anyone actually deserves a big tip, its the chefs but they actually have something called a skill so they couldnt care less.

Restaurant tipping is still acceptable but its the bartending industry i have a problem with. The fact that they expect tips just to open up a beer or toss you a bottle of water is absolutely ridiculous. Even if you order standard drinks which take less than 5 seconds to make, a tip is not deserved. Unless the bartender actually suggests a drink to you or conjures up one of their own specialties, it should not be warranted. The amount of money bartenders can make in a night just on tips is absolutely ridiculous and its all tax free. Whats probably worse is that some of them must be getting so caught up with all that money that they dont think about actually taking up a real job.

I was working NYE one time, and this old dude tipped me $1 on his first round of drinks, and after that he always had his money in hand and ordered the same drinks. In the huge crowd at the bar he always got my attention first, mainly cus he had his money right there in my face and I was going fast lol

So, yeah even a small tip gets on your server's good side. And this is in NZ where tipping isn't that common.

what do you mean when you say takes care of you?

I've never had any problems with a bartender in terms of long wait or attitude but in terms of getting above average service , it doesnt happen unless we do the 'Heres a $20 keep em coming' bit.

as in making drinks stronger and not charging you for it. it pays off. ive had bartenders give me 2-3x the alcohol and because of this i tip well.

That's true.

MAN, now all my drunken weekends (all three of them, lol) this summer make so much more sense.

I was wondering why I got so shitfaced!
