look, if you cant follow the argument then i try to repeat myself in a different way so cretins can follow what im saying. please, feel free to question me about the particular facets of FPS gaming that halo shares with older and better games. especially if my original statements are lacking a concise description.

Don't start repeating yourself instead of creating some kindof arguement. I grow tiresome of such over-grown ego boosted bullshit.

as above. and lol at the ego bullshit. thiscoming from the guy that likes to argue with people on the internet and goes by the name of the arbiter. i am quite often over the top with my love or hatred of things, but so be it we all have our cross to bear.

That is the lack of maturity.

see, ive never seen this great book of maturity that states being mean to people is necessarily immature. but then again, on some level we would have to be pretty immature, i mean, we're arguing via forums about computer games. dammit, another cross.

I'd rather be a tool than a fanboy mate. I accept that you like other things. I even accept your blind loyalty to them.

haha.

(Yeah, I said blind. I've played these games and maybe ten years ago they stood up to your arcaic views and dumb divisions between the two different types of games.) You however, spit at anyone who dare's claim their favourite game defeats yours. You are the true fanboy.

first off, i would LOVE to hear your justication for your continued presumption that halo and the other unrealistic alien fragging games are somehow particularly different cos it just aint true, but please, humour me

this has nothing to do with any of the games that i love, this has only to do with one particular game i think is seriously overated. this has nothing to do with me being a "fan" of any of the games mentioned.

once upon a time, there was a little boy who, in 1981, was playing a primitive paddle-tennis game you could plug into the tv and run on channel 12. before long this upper middle class child was lucky enough to have a commodore 128 brought into the house and when he was babysat after school he could get his hands on an atari 2600.

at school he played text adventures on the BBCs and later mac classics.

somehow, he managed to beg, cheat and steal enough $$ for his very own system, the trusty sega master system. meanwhile an SX-25 sat in the family's study, but that was only played on when nobody was home and the father wasn't watching.

never able to afford an amiga, he made use of his neighbour's 500 whilst upgrading to a mega drive, and would go to town on his best friend's snes.

that neighbour sold their amiga 500, and some new and beaut PC replaced it, with none other than wolfenstein 3d. well then, that fucking mega drive just had to go!

working shitty night hours at his local woolworths supermarket chain, the young lad was eventually able to purchase his 486DX2-66. ID software was able to make doom by the time the poor child could afford the new toy. glorious.

when the sega saturn started to die, the kid picked one up for a song and bought shitloads of cheap games for it, because his 486 was starting to look a little long in the tooth and he needed something to tide him over because his thirst was large.

486DX2-66 => P3-450 => p3-866 => p4-2.4 => C2D 6400. and picked up a playstation during that time to play some of the old classics.

yeah, he might've been a fanboy, but he was a fan of gaming.

one day he played a game the world was raving about and was thoroughly disappointed. now he shares his mostly immodest, arrogant and often rude "26ish-years-judging-the-industry-viewpoint" about some titles that don't stand up to his deeply-ingrained, lofty standards.

but he, and all the games that he has played lived happily ever after

Firstly, could you point out were it was you made this magical explanation? Secondly, when you make a claim you back it up. It isnt up to me to poke holes through an arguement that only half exists.

Let me explain it to you, seeying as games being different from eachother is obviously such a wacky idea. Halo and Quake don't play the same. Infact, they play so differently and the concept behind them so different that they arnt even the same class of game besides the generalisation of an FPS. Them simply being FPS games does not make them the same type of game. If I was to go a step further to iterate my point I could ask you why Quake and Rainbowsix are the same. Obviously they arnt in the same way Halo isnt the same type of game. It's another type of game, incomparable thanks to the completely different game dynamics. This is at the very core of difference between games and refusing to acknowledge it doenst make it false.

My gaming experience is not as vast as yours, but your experience spans into antoher era, an era that is rapidly fading into ancient history and its influences being rapidly forgotten. I come from the Doom age, which is sufficient experience. I've been Hardcore right from the start and competitive gaming is in the very essence of my existance. Dont make the mistake of assuming I have no knowledge or that I dont know my shit, especially when it comes to PC games. I know what your talking about, but fact is I dont agree withit on any level.

^ Hahahha holy crap!

So I walk into EB today pick up some classics, and the store is full of boxes everyone looks pissed so I go and talk to my manager. For some reason they sent us so much shit merchandise for this joke of a franchise. I look through the boxes fuck magnets, medal replicas, key chains, shirts not to mention all these shit figurines( not to even mention how grossly overpriced they were). I stand in awe and yell out what "lame ass fucking nerd would buy this shit!!" My manager starts laughing so I turn around there is some dwit that looks exactly like that kid in the picture and it looks like he is about to cry lulz.

edit: If someone chopped a Search for Sunrise cd in that kids hand I wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

A Master Chief action figure would be pretty sweet. How much was it and do YOU work at an EB?

Oh that's lame, I wouldn't spend more than 10 bucks on one

Yeah I have a weird action figure collection. Not many people have an action figure of a space marine from Quake 3

oh yeah sorry. my mistake. that's why the extreme "tactical" nature of this shooter had deathmatch and team deathmatch as 50% of its multiplayer modes (at least, memory is a bit foggy). tactical shooter don't give the games airs it doesn't deserve.

halo is an unrealistic shooter played in a deathmatch fashion, circle strafing included. so a comparison to any other unrealistic shooter where you circle strafe aliens is a completely valid point.

so we have, deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag. ooh! tactical!

yes, rainbow six and quake are certainly different. but no, halo and the other unrealistic shooters really are not, for reasons i have posted again ^^. having played my fair share of multiplayer halo i contend that it plays exactly the same as the others of its ilk, just much worse, slow, less skillful and boring. rainbow six et al is also very slow, but hardly boring because of its more lethal dynamic. again, im not calling them the same simply because theyre both FPSs- that would be silly

oh, i didnt post my life history to say i know more than you (or anyone else) just pointing out that im not a fanboy, im not here to champion any system (or game) over another, to illustrate that i just love gaming, on all systems, and all types of games. just that halo, given its colossal popularity, isn't all its cracked up to be, and wouldn't have been nearly as famous had it existed primarily on another format

anywayz, i'll try and be nicer next time i yell at you. but "trying" doesnt mean "succeeding"
