well, i think the point that people want to make is that it is sad that dance music be reduced to the whims of marketing people, and that number 3 deejay has to be number three deejay rather than John van Smith with a unique musical presence that should be all the marketing he needs. Marketing implies a product is being sold, and products being sold implies consumption.
The culture of consumption and a productive, positive, progressive culture are at odds with one another.
The magazine is a joke because it shouldn´t be about marketing in the first place, but rather substance.
I grew up as the son of a graphic designer and advertising account executive and I do my own freelance advertising and design, so I am extremely suspicious and cynical about marketing. It´s nearly always bullshit.
All this hype, fiction, copywriting, the language of the design, the faces, the poses, the haircuts, everything is all bullshit.
