http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...t=arnold+banned

And this thread...

http://tranceaddict.com/forums/show...525#post7724525

----------------------------

He's been banned multiple times, and obviously hasn't learned a lesson.

Jesus how could I forget? I think we've seen enough of these patterns, haven't we? It's clear he has absolutely no interest in debating, and it's clear he's pretty hard up on attention. It's also clear he's had a history of being an absolute moron who's been banned multiple times for the same damn reason he's been banned once already here.

He's been given ample opportunity to change, Lira. I've given him time after time to support himself and try to be a bit more constructive in his posts. I've gotten on him hard for the sole reason of seeing whether or not he is willing to respond and change his ways.

I don't know how it could be any more clear that he is unwilling to do so. Personally I've seen enough. Like Krypton said, this thread is the epitome of what we will likely see in the rest of this forum should LatinLover/arnold continue in his childish ridiculous antics. I realize I've wavered a bit on my support of allowing such people like Latin continue to post for the sole purpose of "freedom", and hoping that either he will respond with integrity to questions posed directly to him or perhaps troll somewhere else. I think his actions both in the past and at present make a clear case otherwise. In this post he has managed to continue with the adhominem attacks, then moved to slander, and in this other thread:

http://tranceaddict.com/forums/show...369&forumid=66&

he's also managed to slander homosexuals in his attempts to insult my arguments without even addressing them.

Because of his obvious past, and because of his present behavior, I really don't know what else needs to be seen. I agree with Josh that perhaps these things should be done more on a 1 on 1 basis with each poster rather than another rule (at least for now), but I can't see a stronger case for dealing with this guy on that 1 on 1 basis.

Getting back to the poll...

... this was probably a good discussion to start. Even if there is no draconian rule to lay down, as much as I can tell Lira was looking to consolodate power , it's still usefull to see that most people would prefer some amount of opinion to go with the start of a thread.

That sounds reasonable.

As much as this isn't a news feed I still enjoy takeing a look at articles that other people post. The fact that most of the users here are getting thier news from different places makes it a good way to get a more round oppinion.

...

And since we are on the topic of banning, why not just ignore posts by users who consistently write things that aren't interesting? Unless a user is spamming then I don't see why someone should be silenced.

Latin isn't posting things that aren't interesting. On the contrary, I'm interested in his posts and headlines and have attempted to get him to engage in a debate for a rationale as to why he posted them. Or I have refuted his arguments and/or the arguments of his stories and have received no viable response in return. When someone incessantly copies/pastes articles in a debating forum and refuses to engage in a debate or even a worthwhile discussion about his article posted, then why is he here? This forum is not a bulletin board, nor should it ever be.

Furthermore, it's clear that LatinLover has had a history of what you call "being silenced" (i.e. banned or suspended) for a very good reason, one in which he's demonstrated in this forum time and again (and has been banned from this forum once as a consequence). He's also taken it a few steps further by attempting to attack and slander me personally (rather badly at that) instead of engaging the points and questions posed directly toward him, as I outlined above.

So I think both his past and present actions speak volumes about this issue.

Oh for the love of god please tell us who is begging you to stay. I mean I want you to stay too, but that's because I take sadistic pleasure in people making asses out of themselves.

That's a good question. I can only speculate that Latin's posting to read the responses to his posts. It's clear that he does because he replies to them, even if not in a debating manner.

But I'd pose the question to LatinLover, why are you here? What do you enjoy about putting blocks of text up on the internet and having what seems to be a mostly hostile audience read/respond to them?

He's just Trolling. There are actually a few people here that never really seem to add anything meaningful to our conversations (and/or frequently use personal attacks) so after having gotten tired of dealing with it (over the course of a few years) I just recently started using TA's ignore feature. The funny thing is, he is pretty bad but he's not even on my list yet.

Kay, lads, I'm going to read this thread thoroughly and carefully as soon as I get back from uni.

Meanwhile, I'm going to lock it, just so I can take care of all this drama

I'm back. First, let's talk about LatinLover.

It rang a bell when he said he had not "found a worth while member to engage in a debate". I still haven't changed my mind about him: I'm against banning him, and if we learnt anything from the previous poll is that: (1) Banning him won't do any good, and (2) we should learn to live with all sorts of different users, even if it does seem they're trolling.

We can't compare the PDD to other boards (specially regional ones). We're full of users who are academically active (either as undergraduate or graduate students), and who must live in an environment where debate is valued. In such places we quickly learn that if an argument doesn't hold water, we should just dismiss it. I personally disagree with LatinLover's stance on most issues, and I find his arguments really unconvincing. But, that doesn't mean we should give him the boot and/or judge him (rather than his arguments).

So, I'm not banning him unless he posts messages that are "obscene, vulgar, excessively sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws." - we all agreed to that when we joined.

Also, I won't be closing threads just yet. Any debate regarding this issue would eventually become a discussion on LatinLover's behaviour, so I think we should wait before trying to tackle this "thread quality" problem.

Should you find a lousy thread, with nasty copy pasta, just ignore it, and it shall disappear in its journey to the 2nd page. Oh, and the "news thread" isn't a bad idea.

Gotta go now, I'll reply to the pm's soon.

edit: Sorry if my English is confusing... I'm really tired
