Why do you say that, I am not for one minute saying he is the best DJ in the world technically. Sure there are people that do scratching and cutting and all that DMX stuff that PvD can't do, but i'm not into that so for me, the statement I made was true.

And my name isn't Richard, I was christened Ricky

Perhaps. As Mikey Mike G pointed out, James Holden had produced a remix of Britney Spears' "Breathe on Me" a couple of years ago, and it was actually quite a well produced remix. Although I'm not familiar with his reasoning, I'm familiar enough with his production style and background to assume it's one of those 'ironic remixes' you're talking about.

Besides, PvD and Holden are not the only two major acts who have applied their touches to Spears- Leama & Moor also gave her the remix treatment, in addition to one of Avril Lavigne's tracks, and I would hardly accuse that amazing duo of attempting to sell out (Leama said their Avril Lavigne remix is one of the highlights of his entire production career).

As for PvD in general, I've always been rather indifferent to him. He's always been at least passable to me in terms of a DJ, though I rarely find myself fond of anything he produces- this remix of Britney Spears will change very little of my personal viewpoint on him.

He's a great DJ, it's just that his track selection has now diminished, like most DJ's he discovered the new flavour of electronic, that being minimal/tech? He needs to go back to his musical roots and to make himself aware of what made him and his music so popular.

He was great back when he only did Soundgarden and guest DJ'd on GDJB and ASOT.

I must say that although I agree that I do not approve the direction he has gone, even though I am not into trance as much as I use to be, i still go to see him b/c he is one of the few djs' that whenever I go see, always delivers.

Is English your second language? It's fucking atrocious - not quite as atrocious as PvD's new album though.

The exciting thing that PVD does is layer tunes over the top of eachother, giving them a different feel - again if you go back to the example of the Global set, where he plays "need's to feel" over the top of something else, and it just sounds way more energetic. Doing things like that on the fly impresses me more than tight beatmixing, which anyone can learn to do in a couple of years.
+1

I love the way he works that Ableton.

Saw him a few weeks ago for 6 hours and it was absolutely great. He did play that Britney track and the only thing that was good about it was that loud ass kick @ Roseland.

It's not a track ppl should d/l, buy, or even play [unless you are paul].
