Hey,
Don't wanna get your hopes down, but keep an eye on how that Samsung player runs... that particular model got some pretty bad reviews! A lot of people are switching to the Sony Blu Ray player as it's ratings and reviews are much better!
click on the 'Customer Reviews' tab and see for yourself
I know every device isnt rated that well as the technology is still fairly new but the reliability of each machine defiantely differs from each brand! and besides, the Sony is on sale this week too :-p. A better player at a cheaper price :-)
just my 2 cents :-)

I have the Sony S1. This one was made in Japan, not in China. Also getting the Panasonic BD30. One of the first players to bitstream new sound codecs.

I'm with Malek. Blu Ray can't win because it's Sony. Anything Sony is the devil.
The End.

i read reviews on highdefdigest.com and the only problem that people seemed to have was with fox movies. once they did a firmware update then everything was fine. as far as pricing goes, i doubt anyone can have a sale on the sony for $315 (how much i paid for mine) or less.
edit: and most people that post on futureshop's site are noobs. i never trust their reviews so i search elsewhere.

Toshiba has just slashed their HDDVD players prices by half.

i agree.. but i still have faith in blu-ray.
edit: and if hd-dvd does with this war, a player will probably only be $100 by then so no big deal.

players were already going for 100$ during the holidays hehe...
The thing that bogus the numbers in favour of the bluray are the PS3. I think in the US market, if you take out the PS3, there is more hddvd players than bluray players. not sure though.
If you look at the top 10 movies sold, you see resident evil in bluray on top which shows the relations between ps3 owners and the movies they buy.

ya i saw an hd-dvd player doorcrasher at futureshop boxing day for $100 with 2 movies or something. crazy.
i agree with the ps3 affecting blu-ray but there are also a lot of people that buy the ps3 specifically for blu-ray (i know a few myself and these arent young kids.. these are married adults that have kids my age and none of them play video games).
as for resident evil.. ugh.. i made the mistake of purchasing that cuz i thought it would be cool to watch on BD. the first time i tried watching it i fell asleep. so i continued the movie from where i left off and i fell asleep again. i think i just wont bother with it any more.

I specifically bought the PS3 for the blu-ray player even though i'm a gamer.
Eventually I guess I would use for gaming, but I still only own 1 PS3 game which i got used.
When the PS3 came out, it was the cheapest BD player as well as the best BD player. People who bought the other BD players were just plain stupid.
