I also prefer small venues like footy and zone vs. places like docks or the Guv,

I've gone through a somewhat similar transition (minus the DnB and Jungle (I don't think I'll ever find those sounds audibly pleasurable)), although during a much shorter time.

In the summer of 2006 I got into EDM and I liked nothing but trance. I went to my first few events at the Guv in the fall of 2006 and at that time I could not stand any room but the main room. Months and months later I was still listening only to trance (although by this point I had developed a strong appreciation for tech-trance). I remember a bunch of times heading down to the Guv being anxious about the possibility that M.Oliver would play only house music, thus threatening my chances of having a good time. Then in the summer of 2007 my tastes started to change a bit. I fell in love with house: the music that I used to describe as 'emotionless', boring, and far too repetitive became very appealing to my ears. I started to venture into the Gallery whenever I'd hit up the Guv and the sound in there took a hold of me. I remember near the end of the summer of 2007 being in the main room thinking to myself 'I don't know how to dance to this: it's too fast!'. And then in the fall of 2007 I started to appreciate music with more minimalist and progressive elements. I've come to believe that so often it is the case with EDM that 'less is more' as the saying goes, e.g. a subtle melody can be far more catchy than something more obvious and pronounced. Currently, I still enjoy trance every now and again; however, but-for a few classics, I prefer tech-trance as opposed to the fluff like I did when I first got into the scene. I'd say house (the harder/techier stuff) and prog house are my two favourite genres at the moment.

As for venues, I used to--as some of you will know--love to be up on the podiums/stages in a huge room filled with people. Now, the big rooms make me feel anxious/nervous sometimes; and I'm much more content to park myself next to the booth inside a smaller room like the Gallery and enjoy myself there.

Sometimes we make sacrifices like these to be with someone we really want...and then we realize our mistakes. I'm sorry you had to force a change in yourself. I won't lie, I was a bit upset that you completely cut yourself off from everyone for a relationship.... but I understand why it happened. But everyone needs balance. You should never have to sacrifice either.

what the fuck? I just broke up with my girlfriend of 7 months (well actually I got dumped) and the only reason it was "something has changed...I don't see this in the long term but I still love you". I mean, hahahaa...give me a fucking break blank blank!!

Well, I got pissed with the buds tonight so I wish you all a happy St. Patty's Day. I'll be too blind drunk to even post on here.

Don't you think it's a bit unclassy to have her full name in there?

I'd say the latter. Between 20 and 30 is when it usually happens for people. 1/4 life crisis as some would call it.

Good luck with your searching Dannie. We haven't met (yet) but I can certainly relate with what you're going through.

Accept it, life is an endless rollercoaster ride. You can either hate it or enjoy it. I know which one I'd choose
