Noel Sanger was kind enough to take time out his Asia tour to answer some questions...
Hey Noel, thanks for taking the time out to answer a few questions for us…
So you're back in NYC this week for Summer Madness. What's your general impression of New York's club scene?
It seems to come and go, but even when people in New York are complaining about it, it remains stronger than most of t he rest of the US. One thing New York seems to always have is a thriving underground, even when the big clubs become lackluster, there is always a Love or a Sullivan room to keep the music going.
Last year you started up Dissident Records, and have had a slew of huge releases. What sparked the desire to start up your own label?
I had been planning it for ages, and the time just seemed right. Lots of friends with tunes that needed homes, distribution in place, and the right motivation in my personal life... A perfect storm, so to speak. It gets even better though... just wait!
What's in store for Dissident the rest of the year as far as releases go?
Well the big thing I am excited about is that I am working currently on an artist album, and have a few labels interested in partnering in different territories for release. Also I have tracks and mixes signed from a huge list of great producers- Darin Epsilon, Stryke, Shawn Mitiska, Air Hustlers, Faarsheed, Scott Anselmo, Santiago Nino, Michael Harrington and a bunch more... it's gonna be a great second half of 08!
As a producer, your songs really run the gamut as far as genre goes…breaks, progressive, trance, and lately you've been getting a little electro(y).
Yes sir. I just play and make... DANCE MUSIC. I love it all.
What software / gear are you using for production?
I am an unabashed Apple fanboy and an apple pro certified logic trainer. I also use Ableton a bit.
As a DJ, who are your top 5 go-to producers at the moment?
Always a tough question! there are so many... Dennis Sheperd is awesome, Mistiska is awesome, Kenneth Thomas always... Brisker and Magitman, Fine Taste...
Best gig ever?
I think its gonna be tonight!
What city are you most itching to play for the first time?
Anywhere in europe. Still haven't played over there. Last year I was booked in Sofia and Helsinki and got sick and missed the whole weekend. I will make good on those this year. And Moscow would have to be a top one on the list!
You're off to China this week…how pumped are you?
I am here in Shanghai now, and let me tell you, this city is amazing. The night was great last night and tonight we go to Huangzhou for another. The people, the culture, the fake bags and watches (shhhhhh!)... really a great experience. I am a little sad to leave!
Thanks for your time Noel. See you on the 14th!
See you at Love on Saturday!
