i never said it wasn't ableton... most of the time it was that, or cddjs. i see primarily trance djs but do see the likes of carl cox, sasha, digweed, and others and i personally have never seen any trance dj (outside of pvd as i mentioned before) or the others mentioned use control vinyl/cd. i've personally only seen them use cddjs, vinyl, or ableton.
personally i was really excited when serato came out. for me it dramatically reduced my spending on vinyl and allowed me to instantly get the gratification of downloading an mp3 from beatport, etc and immediately be able to play it through my setup. no longer did i need to place the order, make payment, and wait for shipping and hope the records weren't damaged.
i still love vinyl though and still collect a few records here and there. i think the likes of serato, traktor, live, etc have made djing more interesting too, as demonstrated by hawtin.
