what i've never really understood is how some people can go from being into one type of music/artist, get into another type, and then totally reject/dislike the previous. it really boggles my mind. i used to listen to pantera and marilyn manson in high school. now i mostly listen to dance music. that change didn't make me reject or start making fun of people who listen to heavy metal and shop at hot topic...its just now something i dont listen to on a regular basis.

my point with this is you can use the search function and go back far enough to find some of the people that have been mentioned as snobs here liking the music that they are now picking on.

i think what causes this is the high schoolish social fallacy that the music you listen to somehow makes you cooler. i fail to see how sitting around compartmentalizing micro-niche genres of four on the floor dance music and making fun of other people because the synths in their prefered niche has the synth cutoff more open can possibly make anyone cooler.

really dont know where i was going with this. i think im just explaining the ridiculous amounts of trance bashing on the tranceaddict forums to myself....

good point! i actually feel the same whenever i find good trance i listens to it.

i get that vibe too on the boards, but somehow i feel that the perceived "elitists" are going to disagree in an angry and/or sarcastic manner

dont worry, those of us who actually read posts and dont mindlessly ignore opinions won't disagree

Vangelis' music radiates dangerously high doses of PLUR. Watch out!

It basically comes down to a handful of retards. They all should be banned. And the worst part is that people think these trolls are experts, when they could be 18 year old nerds.

This forum is supposed to be somewhat serious and educational, but it's loaded with unicorn bullshit. People can't even get serious answers. As gay as it sounds, the modding slipped big time and so did the content, probably why the traffic dipped.

...either that or people with actual pubes and a more refined ear for music. Take your pick.

I'm sorry, at what point did I say "people shouldn't hate trance now because they once liked it"?

I was merely expressing the fact that a lot of users on here act like they have always been in to techno, deep house or whatever is in vogue at the moment, all the while bashing on trance as ridiculous and crass. I was pointing out that this is a sham and their love for "trendier" genres has probably not always been the case.

well i can't speak for others, but as for myself, I never criticize people personally for their taste in music. I express my distaste for certain productions, I express my concerns as far as culture is concerned. I also express my concern about anyone who obsesses about ANY kind of music to the extent of being close-minded.

My twin brother listens to the same epic trance he started listening to years ago. I don't judge him for this. I do try to show him different kinds of music though.

that being said, trance IS ridiculous and crass, and that is precisely why a lot of people like it. There is nothing wrong with me saying that, I am not out to hurt anyone's feelings. If anyone feels like I have stepped on their toes then I think these people are way too sensitive and have dangerously identified themselves with a meaningless ideological construct (genre/culture). I am critical of absolutely everything. I strive to avoid pretense and illusion in every aspect of my life.

When I bash trance, I do it in trance-bashing threads.

If someone made a thread called "the timewriter sucks" i would join in in expressing my distaste for mcdeep house

if smeone made a thread called "all dub techno sounds like basic channel, and most of it is boring tripe" i would also join in and jump on the criticism wagon

all you ninnies need to stop taking this so personally

I think it's important to always look behind the curtain and see what's really going on. Imagine for a second what you thought you liked wasn't as good as you first thought. This is good practice. 'rolling stones gather no moss'
