Police Release New Video Of Subway Shooting Suspect
Friday January 23, 2009

They now know where he got on - and they certainly know where he got off.
But investigators are still missing key details in Thursday's subway shooting at Osgoode Station and they're hoping you can help fill in the blanks.
Toronto Police have released new video of the suspect in the gunplay that outraged and frightened commuters and shut a portion of the University line down for hours.
Police have been able to pinpoint that the man in the Blue Jays cap (top left) entered the subway at the Downsview Station. They believe he came off a Jane St. bus, which may indicate the area of the city where he lives.
They're working on isolating video from the cameras that now ride everywhere on TTC vehicles and hope it will show the exact stop where he actually boarded. Police say the footage has been invaluable to this point.
"We're very confident that we will be effecting an arrest in short order," said Insp. Mario Di Tommaso.
Detectives also reveal that Toronto's Most Wanted was on the same train with the victim he's accused of shooting, when both got off at the Queen St. West station downtown.
It doesn't appear they were there together but police confirm they have evidence that the man who suffered the bullet wounds to the abdomen is at least somewhat familiar with his alleged assailant, although he doesn't know him by name.
The new video shows the suspect walking through Downsview station on his way to the platform. He goes down an escalator and heads to the train, which he will eventually board and ride downtown with the victim in the same car.
See the video here.
It's still not clear what led to the conflict that resulted in the shooting but cops are hoping to learn more as they track his movements.
The suspect is described as:
Black,
Light complexion,
20-27,
6'-6'2",
Medium build.
He was wearing a New Era Toronto Blue Jays baseball cap with the new logo, a black fur-lined winter parka, black pants and black Nike Air Jordan running shoes with 'Nike System' on the side.
Meanwhile, the wounded man (seen in the exclusive CityNews footage, below) has vastly improved and been released from hospital. He's now back home with his family, but police have not released his name.
Cops are urging anyone who may know where the gunman is to be careful. He escaped before officers and the ETF arrived but he's still armed and considered dangerous. If you see him, don't approach him. Call 911 immediately instead.
Like police, TTC officials were also busy Friday, reassuring shaken riders that the service is still a safe option thanks to a host of cameras, convex mirrors, two-way intercoms and 103 special constables.
"The TTC remains one of the safest transit systems in the world, we have an exemplary safety record," insists spokesman Brad Ross.
Some aren't so sure.
"It scared me because of the location," admitted one rider named Sheila Fennell. "I could have been on the platform."
