I was born in Boston and grew up in Clearwater, FL (which although "south", is not "the south" as people think of it).

I've lived in Charlotte for a year and a half dude.

Again I don't need any of your explanations. You're trying too hard. Besides anyone who wasn't ass backwards and not a racist would laugh their ass off at taking a job in the South.

fuck off. All I'm trying to do is show you how dumb your assumptions and stereotypes are. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back thinking you have some sort of status that I want reassurance from.

Charlotte is actually a damn fine city, 2nd only to NY in finance/banking. It's a hell of a lot cleaner and nicer than most places I've seen in the Northeast. There's virtually no unionization here, so foreign companies aren't afraid to invest, and there are lots of major companies continuing to employ workers. You should actually see the places in person that you bash instead of buying into stupid stereotypes.

I did laugh, but in the end, I took the job anyway.

piling on for the sake of piling on. cool bro. I don't see what I'm missing. I've spent plenty of time in the northeast, and have access to the same types of "intellectual" material here that you do up there. What do you think Charlotte is, Dothan, Alabama? There's about 2 million people in the metro area, no different than Orlando. LOL... lets see, we don't have harsh winters, our city is actually clean and modern, you can get about 3-4 times the house for the money, and property taxes are a fraction what they are in DC or NY. Yeah, living in the south sucks.

I don't believe that statistic, unless proven of course.

I gathered this much:

http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/10things/?p=333

2008 MasterCard Worldwide Centers of Commerce
Index™ Overview of Global Findings

New York and Chicago maintain regional primacy. The only two North American
cities in the top 10 globally, both New York and Chicago benefit from leading
financial markets and a strong U.S. business climate.

Los Angeles drops from top ten. The fall of Los Angeles to #17 in 2008, compared to #10 in 2007, is, in part, due to factors around its role in the global financial services network, as well as the rise of European cities in the area of knowledge creation. However, the city ranks #4 in the North American region behind New York, Chicago and Toronto.

Nice twisting of statistics. Your link compares the statistics of "Megaregions" which consisit of areas with 10-50 million people. Charlotte metro area has approximately 2 million.

This is 2006 data, but I doubt it's much different 2 years later. Don't forget the corporate HQ of Bank of America, Wachovia, 5/3 Bank, and several others are here.

2009 data

Charlotte remains the nation's second-biggest bank town by assets -- second to New York, and in front of San Francisco.
