Not very much, which was my original point. I think Clovis was taking issue with those who would consider these laptop shows a big advance over DJing (and I'm not implying that you are among those who would).

like i said before, i do not think that they are reinventing the wheel here, but if they are doing something you can't (and maybe never) buy on beatport it is different. You produce right? I can dj good i think (i hope) but i suck at doing things on my own. These guys do not.

does this make more sense? i'm drinking duvel and do not feel like working god dammit
ps it is not about sounding better than a dj it is about being different, because well as skilled as a dj might be he is just a fucking dj.

Shut up, DJs are gods. GODS WHO MELD THE VERY FABRIC OF SONIC FREQUENCIES INTO A GLORIOUS QUILT OF MIND-MELTING PROPORTIONS.

I see your point, but at the same time any DJ can have something that nobody can buy on Beatport by (a) producing something that he'll play out himself but not distribute or (b) getting exclusive tracks from his friends who produce. But my impression is that this never happens anymore because these days the tracks that are "exclusive" at one point get released a few months later and then everyone whores them (see Villalobos "Enfants"). Is that incorrect?

Yeah, I produce, and I think I would love to do a so-called "live" performance with loops and stuff, and I also like the idea of it being a one-time thing. I guess I'm just kind of annoyed that some people see this as a huge advance, when people have been performing this way for years (albeit without laptops), and right alongside the more prosaic traditional "DJ."

i'm not saying it is a bigger advance...i'm just saying that i am better than luciano, just that he gets to play stuff i buy 2 years later. (kidding).

when i mix i like to layer and make things my "own", but at the end of the day i am nowhere near the guys who make their own.

duvel is a bitch and julien is a gay lawyer who helps tourists not pay pay parking tickets

a one shot deal is nice sometimes, and is something you do not get with "conventional" music often imo.
