Did you also know that the population is also increasing? There are many factors that explain the growth for oil demand. There will ALWAYS be a demand for energy, whatever the source of it is - in this case, oil.

A little graph or a combination of statistics doesnt necessarily mean anything. It can be interpreted in many ways.

It's specifically states per day, for each person. Whatever.

It's just never cease to amuse me, exactly same people, who're complaining about BP now, live in 3000 sq. ft. house for 3-4 people, have 2-3 SUV/minivans/trucks in the garage, and they're the ones making big stink about BP.
Get rid of your big gas guzzlers, move to a smaller place, take public transport to work.

Yes, North Americans are very inefficient when it comes to energy use, but not all of us ... some of us genuinely do care about the issues and the environment, so you shouldn't be branding us together. Thats why we're talking about it here - millions of Americans dont even give a shit, they're too busy driving hummers to McDonalds every day.

What car do you have, sir? Honestly. In my case, there are absolutely no means of getting to my job other than having a car - rural area - plus my work requires driving, i.e. not just getting to and from work.

Also, those statistics are faulty. North America / Europe is already developed, and the use of transportation there is closer to the peak than the opposite.

They dont take into consideration the massive economic growth of BRIC countries (Brazil-Russia-India-China), which will mean HUGE demand for vehicles/transportation now and in the future, more oil demand, and bigger world participation in the usage of oil for transportation.

Many regions of the world are very poor, but once their economies (i.e. China, India) start clicking, they will be buying cars and stuff because they don't want to get left behind of our lifestyle.

I dont live in Toronto - so sorrrrrrrrrrrrry - I am not as good as you. You probably do know that majority of Canadian population doesnt live near Toronto - its a big country with a lot of rural areas.

When I bought my car, I took environment and price into consideration. Its the best match I could find. I was not going to buy a used car again (bad experiences), and I cant afford anything more expensive.

I drive a yaris hatch. They only have 42 L tanks, and no way ur hitting 800 km on a tank of gas. ud have to be an INSANELY anal and hardcore (and effective!) hyper-miler.

Is it 2010 model? I guessed for the tank size, I knew it was over 40L and no more than 50L.

For me its definitely OVER 700km per tank, I had the car for 5 weeks and last time it was 720km - it is easy to track because I only have over a thousand kilometres driven in total on speedometer - and I wasnt so smooth with the clutch/acceleration - its my first standard transmission car ever (took one week to learn). I can imagine that once I get even more effective, I can improve my mileage. Plus I dont do much of city driving, I walk around to get my groceries, driving the car is mostly for long-haul, highway/rural roads. If my memory serves me correctly, it has slightly better highway mileage than city.

I still find 720 hard to believe, unless like the *entire tank* really is hwy, as you say... Seeing as hwy mileage is rated 5.5L/100km for our car, which for a 42 litre tank would be ~760km per tank... so long as your entire tank is truly hwy.

City mileage always brings my tanks down, as im usually more than 50 or 60% city.

Yaris Highway mileage is much better than city... EPA ratings are 5.5 L/100km vs 7.1 L/100km ... which is abt 51 mpg hwy (imperial) vs 40 mpg city.

I know that on pure hwy trips, i usually am averaging between 5.2 and 5.7 L/100km (i have a ScanGauge that displays my mileage for tank, trip, day and previous day, as well as my instantaneous mileage... though that reading is not that usfull since its so wildy varies up and down based on acceleration (!!!), wind, grade/slope of the road you're on, etc.)

And my yaris is a 2007. Same generation as ur 2010. All the same core specs for mileage, etc.
