to be frank,

i'm sure we all agree that ta has evolved in its community, but what doesn't evolve nowadays? i've been here for a long time and the scene has certainly changed from way back.. but that's obvious with almost everything but i definitely do miss those times.

i believe we all have the freedom to express our beliefs regardless of what people say.. this is to promote discussion of course but usually ends up in some unnecessary flame fight.

i think we all should give our opinions but at least share some respect with people who have been here for a long time.. as well as those who have just joined.

i mean, we do want to bring more people into the edm community right? we all share the same passion for electronic dance music and there is no other place to be other than tranceaddict, plain & simple.

anywho.. just sharing my thoughts with you all!

I've been sitting on this one for a while trying to decide how to say what I want to say. My opinion can basically be summed up in the following quote:

Sometimes, it's difficult to not get upset when similar topics keep getting posted again and again by new forum members so I can't really get upset at those who decide to express their displeasure with it. Sometimes, it's not always expressed in the most tactful manner though and I don't think that there is too much that can be done about that.

About the music: My tastes have changed quite substantially and I find that most of these posts about the latest uplifting trance tracks are largely ignored by me. I do read some of the threads, and have found lately that the flaming overall isn't as bad as it used to be, but it still does come up now and again. Well thought out constructive criticism I think is quite beneficial to the forums, but this obviously takes more time than to say something along the lines of "shit track" when you don't care for it. Although sometimes I do find it humorous when such responses are given. It's hard to say whether most here who give these responses do so because it is quick, humorous (to them), or both.

I also think this is a good time to credit a few veterans here on suggestions they have made that I have appreciated:

Right now I'm listening mostly to 00db and Solar Fields.

Rebel9 had a fairly big presence in the 00db thread about their last album and was the OP in one of the only Solar Fields threads I could find in the search. When he has a recommendation on trance, I usually give it a listen. I bought a CD by BUS because I liked the opening track in one of his old mixes.

SystemJ in the Chicane thread mentioned how Ultimae (the record label the Solar Fields is signed to) sends out postcards and incense with their CDs (this would make me think that he has ordered things off of that label as well). His critiques of tracks for the most part are well thought out and constructive so I usually am interested in what he has to say as well.

One veteran who I respect just based on their vast knowledge of the music is Sand Leaper. I usually take a listen to his mixes which are in similar genres that I listen to just to see if the more obscure tracks he picks are ones I would like as well. I find he doesn't post as much as SystemJ or Rebel9, but I don't recall him ever trying to stir the pot. (Thanks again for finally identifying that Dutch Dimension track). =)

I always enjoy reading GrimReaper's (I think that's the name) posts just from a general knowledge perspective on label histories and special releases.

Lastly, Mr. Mystery. I'm still on the fence because of his earlier days where it was mostly flaming from him, but he can have constructive criticism at times as well. I really liked one of his Al Azar tracks back in the day and respect his constructive opinion when he gives it.

These were just a few people off the top of my head that I wanted to give some credit to because they have impacted my listening and I appreciate it. Thanks. Of course there are others, but these were the first ones that came to mind.

Well said, I've always been open to other's opinion when it comes to music, wether it's constructive or not. Tenshi, for example, has really good taste in progressive/trance tracks and when it comes to psy-trance/classic trance I usually follow up on Rebel9 and a few others, but that's my opinion and that's the whole point of why this thread was as useful as a Steve Agnello set.

i like the music discussion forum the way it is - if it wasnt it'd just be like trance.nu - which would mean i would stop coming here Yeah its like sooo friendly and everyone loves each other - but jesus they talk about crap music.

on the whole most of the people on here blast other peoples tastes have been here for a while - and have been into dance music for ages - they generally arent totally obscene about the abuse - just funny and educational a lot of the time.

so all in all - i agree with system-j - some peeps gotta harden up - or go to some other unicorn friendly site where you can all frolick together, crossbread rhino and horse dna and create real life unicorns :hugs:
