There's going to be some weeks where your players will go through a slump. They're not going to score points in every game they play in each week.

You have to look at it from a span of the whole season and not just who is the flavor of the week. Especially since this is week one...if you get blown out it's not that big of a deal...the season runs through March.

You can drop your guys and make moves accordingly, but some of the guys will get picked up by other teams. Like I just picked up Getzlaf and Backstrom, two 80 point players, because you guys made them available.

Fantasy isn't about which team sucks in the NHL. It's more about individual player performance.

If you wanted to drop Getzlaf than that's fine, but IMO it's going to bite you in the ass later. You just don't drop a guy like him this early on into the season.

yes and no, if a team sucks and someone is on a so-so line or if their goalie gives up a lot of goals their +/- will be affected...among other things. it's about the individual but the team does matter. at the end of the day people manage their teams as they see fit.

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.

They aren't playing well at all.

Brodeur is soft...never seen him this off so early in season.

Defense is flat...Offense non-existent, which blows my mind when we have Kovy, Parise, Elias, Arnott, etc....

It's been very frustrating to say the least...

We still got another 70-something games... I'm going to quote your favorite thing to say at all times: "The regular season means nothing." So as long as they pick their shit up and get their act together and get over the playoff bar within the next 70-something games, then I'll be happy..

Man the Devils just suck beyond belief. Now I know some of you will pull the injury card as the excuse, which I can't blame you for doing so, but the fact is that the Devils still sucked even when the roster was all healthy.

If Lou Lams had any balls, he would firesale the Brodeur-Elias-Gionta-Langenbrunnner core at the trade deadline. All four of them have stuck around for too long and aren't getting the job done. The problem with Brodeur is that he's clearly washed up and over the hill, and if Devils don't get rid of him now, he's going to turn into one of those guys who plays long past his retirement.

Also the Devils are now really starting to hurt from letting guys like Rafalski, Martin, and Oduya leave. Their defense is horrible.

Lou will never get rid of Brodeur, and I don't blame him. The fans would revolt if he did and it would go against all the things the franchise has been about for years: loyalty, paying dues, etc... Moves like that do some certain negative intangible things to the morale of the team in the locker room and then on the ice. It's not like we have a suitable backup for Marty; Moose Hedburg certainly isn't it, and Lou must be hitting himself in the head for giving him anything close to a decent contract for this year. I wouldn't mind getting Antti Niemi, which is possible, although I'm not sure if the Sharks are shopping for anyone, so I'm not sure who we'd trade.

Langenbrunner needs to get traded the fuck outta here though. He's lost pretty much all the fans' support and respect between last playoff year and this first month of the season. It's Parise's turn to wear the C, and this 3-month injury is the only thing keeping that from happening unfortunately.

Elias may or may not be under Marty's category of someone who probably shouldn't be traded. Gionta, however, is the captain of the Montreal Canadians, he's been gone from the team for 3 seasons; you're confusing him with his little brother who is an AHL player who got called up for last night's game against the Rangers.. He's certainly not a core player.

Man, when the HELL were we healthy this year? Volchenkov was injured for a month since the second game of the season. Salvador's been out since the first game, Rolston since the third game, Parise now for two games, White now for two games, and Brodeur for one.

I'm not going to say "WE'RE A GREAT TEAM, DUDE!", but we've been sporting an AHL team for the past month for a good 1/3 of our roster. You can't even blame anything on Kovalchuk's contract, because most teams don't have enough healthy scratched players of quality to deal with the injury situation we've been dealing with.

Imagine if Lundqvuist, Dubinsky, Staal, Roszival, and Callahan were all injured at one time, and the chaos that would ensue.. That's pretty much what's going on here..

On another note, Lundquist played his heart out last night. His display of goaltending really put Hedberg's to shame..

See I think trading a franchise player is just something that the fans overreact to. When Rangers fans remember Brian Leetch, do they even think about his stints in Toronto and Boston? What about Messier in Vancouver? They can barely remember that. It's a big deal at first to see a longtime player go but after a while everyone forgets that they were traded in the first place.

Broduer in recent years has gotten injury-prone. And he's a non-factor in the playoffs too. He hasn't carried a Devils team deep into the playoffs since their Stanley Cup run in 2003.

So you can either hold onto him, let him play out his career in New Jersey while the Devils don't win championships, or you can trade him now while he still has some value and get a good player for the future in return.

Sorry I made a mistake. I knew Gionta was a Hab but after seeing him play on the Devils for so many years I assumed it was him the other night.

Volchenkov is ok. Rolston and Salvador suck. Parise was ok until he got injured.

Otherwise most of the good players are still there and they've sucked.

Those are all support guys though. If Drury, Prospal, and Gaborik weren't injured while those guys were, the team wouldn't be that much different. Except in goaltending, but I think Biron could play a 10-game stretch and go 6-4 or 5-5.

Yeah, but we're talking about one of the greatest goaltenders in the history of the game. The fan base would set fire to Prudential Center if that happened, no matter what our opinion is of his current performance; he's retiring here, and the number 30 will be raised the day he does. Leetch and Messier aren't really parallel examples in my opinion.

Parise is okay? He's probably a top 10 forward in the NHL and it's not just us Devils fans saying that. Any team would be more than happy to take him and offer him a $6 million contract. I think we're gunna see some offer sheets when he becomes a RFA after this season.

You're making crazy assumptions, man... If all the personnel that I listed were injured, the AHL players that would have to be called up would NOT be suitable replacements, for any team for that matter. You're saying Volchenkov is okay, Rolston and Salvador suck, Parise is okay. Whatever your opinion is of them, that's our TEAM, and the minor leaguers that are making up our team because of all of this obviously aren't getting the job done, nor can they be expected to.

The team the Rangers played the other night were the Albany Devils, not the New Jersey Devils: Alexander Vasyunov, Brad Mills, Stephen Gionta, Patrick Davis, Alex Urbom-Olivier Magnan, Matt Taormina. A month and a half ago in training camp, these were the players cut within the first 2 or 3 rounds of cuts and sent down to minors. And these are the guys we dressed up to play our fiercest rivals, the Rangers. OF COURSE we're going to get trampled..
