| quote: | | It really sucks that Umek had to cancel, as I was really looking forward to see him perform. My problem, however, with the promoters of the event. Apparently it seems that deceiving your customers is a sign of good business. Why didn't they announce the cancellation ahead of time? Why on the day of the event, I was still getting emails hyping up the party, with not a word of what happened in them? Just please don't tell me it was a "surprise no-show", as he didn't end up playing in Montreal the night before either. I personally know few people from out of town who were coming to see Umek. You probably can imagine how upset they were to find out the bad news after driving all the way to Toronto. A simple email announcement would have avoided their hassle. I would like to thank the promoters for their lack of professionalism and honesty. |
As far as I know the Montreal gig was cancelled before for different reasons. But generally I agree, good points. Obviously, the dj does not usually fly in an hour before his show, that means that promoters knew he wasnt coming at some point early(ier) in the day and instead of letting people know about the fuckup were sending out emails like "dont forget to come to this party bla bla bla". And then all these people showed up and 80% of people in the line still did not know that Umek is not there, due to the fact that promoters cleverly located the "umek is not coming" sign right by the entrance, so that you only found out that he is not there after standing in line for 30-60 minutes and likely would still go in. The security was a gongshow too, at one point there i remember like at least 10 ppl leaving and security not letting anyone in for like 15 min after those ppl left, like wtf?? this was probably the longest I stood in the line to go to a club (over an hour). and i dont know about this 10 bucks cover discount, as I clearly remember being charged 20 per person for myself and my gf when i went in.
As for music, was alright. Carlo was ok, when i just got in at 2 but in 20-30 min started to play too boring/generic. The guy that came after (didnt pay too much attention to the dj booth, was it addy?) at around 3, started pretty good with heavy tech tunes but i was tired by that time so left soon. Altogether, I had a "could be worse" time but not that great. The thing is neither carlo nor junkies or addy are even close to fucking Umek in terms of the craziness/quality of music so i guess musically was a letdown due to high expectations for the night even though it the music was alright.
