Yeah there's definitely nothing wrong with that. I feel like a lot of the criticism here is a bit too technical but it's an honest effort to try and help most of the time, you can't hold that against people

It's only turning meta beacuse System-J keeps contadicting himself and doesn't seem to really give a shit about what he's trying to say. We have no idea what to discuss because every response by him just confuses me more and more as to what his motives are and why he thinks they're worth making a thread about.

Well, it's pretty much been a process of elimination to come to that conclusion. I know more about what his inquiries aren't than what they are about. There are few conclusions left that make any sense and the most obvious one is a meta-discussion.

It's very simple. I'll repeat it again:

1. I think the majority of you are out of touch with music.
2. The simplest way to test that is by finding out what new music you've listened to.
3. Albums are a reasonably representative and easy-to-list yardstick of the music you listen to.

I'm never going to claim this is a scientific judge of anything. There is no scientific judge of being "out of touch" that I can think of, so I'm happy to concede this is an entirely subjective way of testing something. I'm not daft enough to claim that the music you listen to is the deal breaker in terms of your artistic accomplishment, although I think it's fairly self-evident that your outside influences are an important part of the work you make. And this isn't a discussion. I asked a question because I was bored. You aren't here to learn anything. You're here entirely to make yourself look bad by getting angry and over-defensive about a very simple question.

Anything else, I'm just making up as I go along.

Well, the second option was that you were trolling. I give this one a 7/10. Not bad, as far as keeping it disguised, but if I were trolled into it it was because I was trying to determine that it was a troll.

Well all I'm saying is no, the music we listen to doesn't necessarily have any bearing on the music we write. If that's how it works for you then hey, good for you, but that's not how it works for everyone and I just personally think it takes a lot of nerve for someone to try and tell people they're doing something wrong because they don't approach music the same way that you do.

yes, if you're a simpleton, because I probably didn't listen to one full album from start to finish (apart from scores I worked on if that counts) in 2010 - I do however listen to a ton of music on all other mediums from local NPR radio, to satelltie radio, to youtube playlists and pandora, to live gigs and concerts not to mention mixing with mates and at parties.

So what albums we listened to, can, as demonstrated have little to no value or baring on what your childishly trying to ascertain.

No they're not, as described above. In fact I can probably count on one hand the albums I've listened to in my life where every track on it was worth the sticker price of the album and some part of it was not filler and that's true for any genre, and in that respect I really buy tracks or source music from a broad multitude of places.
