That sucks, her getting stuck with a dog that's becoming so unmanageable. I definitely believe what you say about the husky. Mine can be a bit crazy at times. My Grandfather is a vet, and he has been sending me different medications to try and get her to calm the fuck down. The most recent one was called Reconcile, which is meant for dog separation anxiety. It's seemed to work quite a bit. The funny thing about the Reconcile, though, is that it's fluoxetine hydrochloride (Prozac). For the huskies, a lot of them can get anxious inside, so if you really want them to calm down, you just need to exercise the fuck out of them, which can be hard sometimes because they never get tired.

From what I've read, huskies are kind of in the middle of the road, intelligence wise, when it comes to dogs. Not overly smart, not overly stupid. I've definitely had some "wow, this dog is retarded" moments with her too. She's only one though, so it's hard to tell what is her being kind of a puppy still, and what's her being a bit crazy.

The only people who should have Great Danes should be Revolutionary War era British generals.

He was a sled dog that was essentially beaten and left outside for 2 years. Our family has been going to the same vet for 40 years, and he knows that we have a bleeding heart with this kind of stuff, as well as we have owned many different types of animals and have the room for them...so he asked my mother to take it in and she did.

The turn around in 3 years is pretty amazing. He went from a thin and starved animal to a beautiful healthy dog. The only thing with him is that he doesn't like men, and will sometimes hide from them. I suppose this is normal considering its past. He is cool with me, but still has its moments.

He is an awesome hunter...we find dead squirrels and gofers all over the yard.

yeah when buying a pet, all it takes is a little research. most breeds have pretty sustainable traits/characteristics. it's not like you don't know what you're getting yourself into when you get a certain kind of dog. i.e. "OMG I DIDN'T KNOW GREAT DANES GET THIS BIG " etc...etc... not ripping on great danes; but you should know what you're getting regardless of the breed.

i've always loved labradors. probably the best combination of friendliness (towards anyone), intelligence, character, obiedience (sp?), and health.

Yup, Huskies go nuts over any kind of small animal. Mine goes crazy over squirrels and rabbits that she sees when I walk her. How big is that one? It's hard to gauge how much Huskies weigh because they have so much damn hair.

The thing I like about them is that they're a good size dog, but still relatively light. Mine only weighs 40 lbs, so she's able to move like a smaller dog. Huge dogs like Danes can be pretty boring just lumbering around all the time.

It also sounds like that one might be an Alaskan Husky? Siberians are meant to be pets, and Alaskans are bred to be sled dogs, and are often not great pets when you try to convert them. As for it being left outside, a lot of Huskies actually like that. Sometimes after a long walk when there's enough snow on the ground and I get back to my house, mine will see I'm getting ready to go inside and bury herself a little hole in the snow to lay down in. They're used to being outside all the time.

That being said, anybody who beats a dog deserves to be covered in gravy and thrown to a pack of wolves.

Very true, every lab I've ever met has been a great dog. Same thing with Golden Retrievers. I think their only slight is that they tend to get fat more easily than other dogs if you don't exercise them a lot. But again, do the research and you'll know that ahead of time.
