Yes, and thats the mentality of most people, although it depends on what that is. Most clueless people just think they work better or maybe its the user friendly interfaces or systems integration. maybe people just need simple easy to use things in order for them to like them or think they are better. the interfaces of mac products are also colorful and lively, look more fun and simple. so i can see why people would like to use them.
most pc interfaces seem to be complicated and overbearing. much like cockpit of an airplane. even though people have mostly grown up with pcs and now are getting accustomed to macs, they have found machines easier to use and use lots of shortcuts.
i say this because the programs i use are school are generally better on pcs than mac. 3d modelling programs on pcs kill macs. although autocad and rhino seem to be making their transitions to the mac platform, i still think they are better used on a pc. which i love because i switch over to my bootcamp side and i have the best of both worlds. |
Just because certain programs work better on Windows platforms doesn't mean Windows is a better OS.
"Running better" although yes, many people blindly think this because of the user-friendly nature of Macs, is an actual discernable difference between Mac and Windows. Mac is a Unix-based system, and a lot of that "user friendly" nature is because Unix is far more stable and runs far smoother than any Windows platforms. Maybe it's easier to use because it's programmed better?
PC interfaces seem complicated and overbearing to not-so-tech-savvy users because Windows frankly isn't programmed all that well. A Mac can do pretty much everything a Windows machine can, it's just that most PC users don't know how to do the equivalent on a Mac, so they just assume that the capability doesn't exist.
I work in IT, and I work with PCs exclusively at work, but I use nothing but Macs at home, because in my opinion, they're just all-around better machines (unless you built your own PC), and use a much better OS.
PS. All of those shortcuts you talk about, if not more, exist on Macs as well.

Aside from going to the Apple store and playing with one, or using your buddy's, have you ever owned a Mac?

Ah...the OSX vs Windows argument. First of all, they are all PCs, personal computers, so any of you that are making other statements are idiots.
I am a systems admin for an animation company, and we run a completely mixed environment. Our entire editing department is using Mac Pros, and I must tell you these people know how retarded OSX can be. When most people say one works better than the other, it is because they have not used either system that in depth.
The amount of mysterious events, and errors we see in OSX, is just as high, or higher than our Windows based machines.
The single biggest reason people are over whelmed with Windows, is because the errors they get are actually descriptive. When you get an error in OSx, it is "error 12" and that is it. So the user does not see any extra info, which they do not understand, and they get the feeling that things are simple. But as an admin, trying to track down errors, and fixes in OSX is a nightmare.
Our game development team feels the same way here. The amount of frustration they go through, dealing with obscure, and poorly documented errors in OSX causes a lot frustration and lost time and money.
I personally used a mac for 7 months an a job before I installed Windows on it so that I could actually get work done in a more efficient manner.
