Hiroshima is the only city I've ever visited in Japan where people have souls but, unlike the rest of the country, it seems like a nice place to live but a dull place to visit...

Hmm, I don't know, my brother is good at forging friendships with lots of people. We met a lot of people he knew, young and old (like real old ). There is some degree of automaton-like behavior but its part of how well the rest of their society runs.

Also I went to an Aeon Mall in Fukuoka.... That whole thing about a declining birthrate seems like its over! The place was HUGE and jam packed with parents with multiple children (most seemed under the age of 3 or 4). I mean there had to be about 2 kids to every 1.5 adults there it seemed and there was a LOT of adults.

The number of shopping centers there just boggles my mind, every train stop had a shopping center, even the small ones. Kitakyushu had two of the most renowned department stores/shopping centers in all of Japan (Riverwalk and this other one right next to it, Minimax or something) and Fukuoka had an amazing one too (Canal City).

Ah, it was too amazing, the standard of living there was just above anything you can imagine in the US.

.jp is a very nice place on the surface, I can give you that. All else being equal, unless I find myself jilted and lovelorn, I'm not sure Japan would be a better place to live than the US or Brazil (the reason why Japan has an advantage concerning love and lust relationships is because this is a 127 million strong ego boost, I now know what it feels like to be a slim and tall blonde supermodel ).

After two decades of hardships and crises, poverty is slowly becoming a problem here, though you're right to compare it with our countries and find less inequalities (I once read the US is bound to become more unequal than Brazil sometime in the next 10 years, which is just plain scary). And, unfortunately, natality rates are still low.

The automaton behaviour you described also irks me (and probably trigger the thousands of suicides every year), so I'm probably not the best person to comment on that. However, I really get a kick out of breaking all protocols and see how they react. They suddenly become people again, it's all too cute, hehe. So, shopping centres aside, what vending machines did you find?

Even if poverty becomes an issue it will more than likely be a temporary one. The infrastructure that the country has set up to rebound from hardships is very good. Compared to the US, there was almost no signs of poverty or even any effects from the recent financial crises that have rocked the world. In the US homeless and mentally ill roam the streets with out any sort of help or care, even in good inner-city neighborhoods.

Heh, I like it when people are not fucking annoying and loud and stupid (and in Japan if they are loud and stupid, its not about things that matter at least). Home for 7 hours and already fucking pissed off at the retards here just reading CNN comments sections!

Mainly just used the normal vending machines, lots of UCC coffee and Fire Coffee. Vitamin/Sports drinks (have a bottle of Pocari Sweat next to me right now).

There was a nice food vending machine at this park that I got some french fries at.

My brother got a little bare chested figurine girl out of a machine at Mandarake in Fukuoka (where I also saw real issue of Comic LO and stuff from EB1100SS, which was a bit disturbing to see in real life, let alone dozens of men searching through adult manga of that particular variety).

The number of bun shops was amazing, had delicious buns every morning (even from places like Mr. Donut).

What I miss most.
