The main difference/reason why people no longer support or come out to attend outdoor events featuring 'Underground' artist for the most part, is that the Mel Lastman law was effective in repressing & changing the the whole culture & mentality that was associated with the scene back then, even if it's free. Everyone who were into the scene back then are now older and aren't the target audience anymore, mainly because they're not the ones attending the large scale events being thrown. 'We're' not the ones packing the Guv/Koolhaus/Ricoh/Sound Academy etc.. It's now a younger crowd, and rightfully so. With that, the new clubbers are usually younger or never got to experience the Massey Hall, Better Living Centre, Science Centre, iDance type of massive raves that many of us did. All they've known is going to party inside of a club here in Toronto, and every large scale club party MUST have several top 10 dj's in each room. The rave culture was just a totally different culture than the clubbing culture we have today. Besides, the artists BB&C usually brought to perform were never large scale/headliners/big enough to attract a bunch of people who would immediately recognize their name.

Today it tends to be about the spectacle of it all. Not that there's anything wrong with that(Smaller clubs like Zone, FW, Tryst, etc...notwithstanding, because many oldschoolers still attend those for the intimate vibe it provides). If a large scale outdoor event would to be thrown in Toronto, it would have to incorporate all of the expected hoopla, bells & whistles that have now come to be expected by a proper large scale festival. Especially since we have many nearby cities that have raised the bar as to what one should be eg. Electric Zoo, DEMF, Bal en Blanc.

Based on that, a small scale event would be ideal to get the ball rolling. Something at Yonge/Dundas square, High Park, Centre Island.. that would end at 11pm/12am, just to generate interest & get mouths talking. Also, to show the city & officials that the EDM community is capable of throwing a successful large scale party within the confines/rules that they've placed. It's important to set long term goals to change the perception of city officials towards EDM partygoers, and not look to change things immediately. Within 5 yrs I can easily see it growing in size. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I don't think it's unrealistic.

Just my 2 cents. I believe Toronto does have the potential to support a successful large scale EDM festival, despite all the laws & rules we face. Change isn't always immediate, but 10 yrs is long enough.

We aren't trying to throw anything, we are throwing. A press release will be issued in the future...so stay tuned neighbors, but the scheduling has to be moved. I'm not sure what your referring to as a conspiracy theory. I think it's very confusing reading that business language hence why this is not the place for me to discuss those details. I apologize for that, and I wont do that again.

No competition has been eaten up. The largest EDM events in North America are not Live Nation. From what I know (and someone will have to confirm this) is that Live Nation has never done large scale EDM events in Toronto to my knowledge, except for maybe Mouse events at the guvernment...but obviously those are not festival style.

I'm not sure what your referring to as dates of meetings. I never gave any dates for meetings. What I'm saying is that the venue was stalling and stalling for a date...but this is to be expected. Live Nation is the company doing the U2 Tour and they do multiple events in this city, including at the dome...they may have dibs without even paying up front.

And no nothing was 'pushed out' by Deadmau5, it's just that the date can no longer be in November...the original intended date. Deadmau5 is not the promoter, he's a hired DJ/performer doing the event for the touring company Live Nation. The same people that own Live Nation own the mouse's booking agency/talent agency. It's possible that he's their experiment to enter into the dance music market. For many years corporate interests have scratched their heads trying to get into the dance scene, as they are desparate to make money. They are losing money BIG TIME in the rock scene. Rock touring is almost dead. Last year the company posted a big Net Loss and had to adjust much of their operations. It will be interesting to see if they make any progress in the dance music market.

In the capacity of this event, it's a touring gig set up by Live Nation, the financial interests behind the Mouse. It's not like the Dome said "Hey We Want The Mouse in our venue". It could be a good thing for the mouse though, as he does appeal to a more pop oriented young crowd. And in no way do I have anything against him...this is just a minor annoyance that's all...although somewhat of a costly annoyance.

What I meant is that to understand this mouse event you have to understand Rock touring...it's a different market, usually set up by Global touring companies that work with the major record labels. Many touring events in fact lose money, but they are more for a marketing push to expose the artist to a large fan base, to sell more CDs in the store (in todays case digital sales) etc. The events are sort of 'plopped around the globe' by the big touring company, historically they travelled with their own PA system in North America and crews and went from venue to venue...but this may not be the case today because of costs, where they just rent the PA system. The old school touring game kind of faded away.
