True or false: majority of performers were NOT trance. I'm into trance, not that much into KSHHHH WHOOOO FART FART DRILL SOUND. Maybe I'm getting old, jaded and been to too many better parties (Ultraworld, NOT Ultra WMC, anyone?) to say that this ONE would have been enjoyable and fun, at least to me. Glad y'all had fun, not "jelly" at all.

Carry on.

I don't like modern trance (which was a huge chunk of Saturday's lineup...) and I hate the Swedish House Mafia infatuation. Oh, and also not into Skrillex.

And I had ton of fun on Sunday and heard a few good sets the other 2 days. Just stop being a douchebag and ripping on something that you didn't even attend, but instead decided to let Sirius XM decide which sets you listened to. Most of the ones I liked weren't even broadcast, ffs.

This summs up my point much better than I could, relevant:

Ok, you first.

edit: to add...

When I look at the line up, I ask myself first and foremost: is this the kind of music I would enjoy? And then: is it worth it? Armin played Roseland earlier this year, many of you natives here didn't go - why? Cost/benefit reward wasn't 100% there for many of you. If you're into large party setting, tons of people, hanging out, checking different types of stuff - this is PERFECT and I've done it 2 years in the row. When I looked at this year's line up, the only acts that grabbed my attention were:

Plastikman/Hawtin, Cox, Markus, and maybe... maybe Armin. I was pleasantly surprised with number of sets: Jaytech, Arty, G&D, Guy Gerber and BT. The rest of the acts I HEARD on XM played the same type of housy/techy stuff that I expected them to and personally not into.

And before we carry on this debate, let's be honest here - it's not just about the party and the the vibe. If it was just that, why don't you go to country music or some death metal festivals? Because it's about the music too. Case in point: PvD gig @ Governors Island: great vibe, great setting, music? Meh. But price was awesome and it made up for what it was lacking in music in everything else.

I go to these events for music, everything else is secondary. I could be in a fucking basement of some abandoned warehouse - if music is awesome, I don't give a shit that they don't have 25 different food carts, face paint artists, clowns, and donkey-blowing midgets to distract me from music.

Looking at the set times schedule, if I was there and say was in the tent listening live to same stuff XM was broadcasting and walked out - there would not be too many other acts I'd be clamoring to see at those set times. So, I'd be wondering around or sitting or BS'ing instead of listening to music. So, this just didn't appeal to ME. I'd rather go to see individual acts in a more intimate club setting and be immersed into sound without any other "perks" - but again, that's just me.

I think that for those that are more open-minded than me and enjoy all kinds of stuff, this was a perfect weekend. For some other, more "picky" lot, like me, this was what was expected.

I'm not trying to bash the party I "watched from the sidelines" - so, yes, it is just my observation based on nothing more than a line up list, set schedule, and XM broadcast. No need to get all riled up about it.

I'm curious to hear what were the SURPRISES of the event, the ones that didn't get broadcast.

Shhh don't give made event any ideas

But its true.. I talked to people who rattled off a ton off festivals/places around the world they've been and said this was one of the best ones parties they've been to... it was an amazing show and got to check out some acts I normally wouldnt of ...

As groundhog boy said...to judge an entire 3 day festival on listening to a few sets on a radio in your house without watching the dj/crowd feed off each others vibe, light effects, talking and dancing with friendly people everywhere doesn't make much sense...
