I used to throw this last one often, the build has a lot of energy and isn't very obscure so it's suitable for most publics.

I used to be SERIOUSLY into "regular" / "euro" progressive trance like you guys are here. I still have some roots in the oldschool styles of trance, and that's why I still come on here from time to time.
I actually made this transition from mostly non-psy trance over to mostly psy trance in about 2005/06. I was pretty late to the game in terms of psy heads. But I have always felt that PsyTrance is doing something that older trance used to do (or attempt to do with limited technology), and somehow doesn't anymore. As many in this thread have said, I felt that it came the closest to the true and original emotions of trance.
I feel the need to lay the distinction down that there are MANY MANY forms of PsyTrance. Actually, the genre PsyTrance is so broad, it encompasses stuff that could be considered straight up Techno or Progressive House, stuff that could be considered Progressive Trance, as well as stuff which could be considered uplifting Trance and even Ambient/Experimental stuff. And of course there is the traditional sounds of psy and goa to go along with all of that. But I guess what I'm saying here is that the genre is so broad, that you even find division within the psy scenes. There are people who love progressive, but hate the night psy. There are people who love night psy, but hate morning full-on. And so on and so forth. I read a lot of people here who said they had bad experience with PsyTrance. Well it is a broad and constantly shifting genre. And if you like Trance or Techno music, I am certain there is some PsyTrance out there for you.
PsyTrance is what actually inspired me to become a DJ. And now (if anybody has seen my other posts here), I organize gatherings and am highly involved with the scene here in southern California. I really don't think I ever would have become as involved if I had never made this musical transition.
I've always felt that since I was also once a "euro"/"mainstream" trance head, that I can connect PsyTrance to people who already know/love these other forms of trance. So if anybody is looking to expand their musical horizons a bit, I invite you to listen to some of the DJ mixes I have put together. I have track lists posted for all the latest ones. If you need to know a track on an older mix, feel free to ask.

This could have to do with the fact that some people really love 93-95 era classic trance (like cosmic baby & mystic force) and closely related stuff (like early goa trance that sounds similar). So naturally concidering the limited amount of that sortof thing the love for planet ben makes sense.
artists I have in mind when I think of hyped up: astral projection, mfg, human blue, son kite, x-dream, psychaos, xerox and illumination, electric universe, space tribe, sun project, 1200 micrograms, infected mushroom, psykovsky, penta, furious, e-mantra, filteria, etnica, plaeidians, spirallianz, the delta, vibrasphere, zen mechanics, ticon, talamasca, overdream, ace ventura, perfect stranger, juno reactor, hux flux, logic bomb, kiriyama, ocelot, the nommos, xenomorph
They all get hyped up far more than planet ben does in my experience.

By the way, what do you guys think of though that psy trance goes much closer to classic trance than euro trance ever does?
Like for instance my dad mostly dislikes psytrance, and rarely finds much interest in euro trance, but is a massive classic trance fan, and he really enjoyed 12 moons - solid state

Aquatica-out of the blue (unfortunately hard to find and youtube unavaliable... damn)
Maybe this track to an extent in some parts and mood wise

Why on Earth would you be "concerned" about him being overrated? And I don't give a shit if there are other, more-hyped artists. I didn't consult the chart of psychedelic morning hype before making my post. All I'm saying is that I've seen numerous people recommend Planet BEN as something "truly" or "genuinely" psychedelic, which is hype, and I personally do not find his music remotely lives up to that billing.
You don't have to be the white knight defending everything in psy trance's honour. We're not in the playground and it's trancers versus psy-heads. Grow up.

I always post my finished mixes here when they're new. Though since people aren't always looking for PsyTrance, they aren't usually the most listened to mixes here on Trance Addict. Also, a lot of the music you guys are talking about (ie: Planet Ben) is VERY VERY VERY old Psy/Goa trance. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this. But this stuff has been around for years, and wasn't the stuff that ended up converting trance heads over to psy. On the other hand, I think a lot of the newer genre-fused psytrance, especially the new style progressive is very much in line with modern trance head tastes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going back to explore the classics, and how the genre got to be the way it is. But Psytrance, at least as much as any other form of EDM, is very much driven by what is new, and today's technology. The new stuff sounds leaps and bounds above the old stuff in terms of audio engineering. I would hate for people to get the wrong idea of what modern psytrance is by listening to music from 10+ years ago.
