Yesterday was awesome, I finally got to see DJ Marky for the first time here in my hometown! I had always wanted a drum'n'bass night here, and I was so stoked it finally happened. Besides, the guy is definitely the GOAT.
Problem is, the day after. My watch claims I did more exercise in 4 hours than I did in the previous 4 days combined, heh. I mean, I hit the gym daily, doing HIIT cardio and whatnot, so it's not like I'm sedentary or anything. And yet, I woke up feeling totally knackered, my shins were hurting, my lower back was aching, and although it improved greatly during the day, my hearing made me feel a bit like I was underwater. Totally recommend

I'm so happy to hear you're both OK and you were not speeding! I've heard so many stories about people hitting big animals that I'll never want it to happen again.
And yeah, every time you close your eyes, you'll have that scene burned into your retinas for a while. To this day, when I close mine, I can see the dog looking playfully at the traffic after coming out from under the guardrails nanoseconds before I slammed on the brakes and it realised it wasn't in Kansas anymore.

We haven't gotten presents for the past few years now, except for the youngest ones in my extended family, and even that's usually just some money or gift cards. It's made Christmas, and the time leading to it, much more enjoyable.
There was this time in 2019 or something, when I was in a bookstore trying to find educational enough gifts for my nieces. Bookstores are usually cramped to begin with, and there were tens of people in there with fucking shopping carts. Took me minutes to get to the section I wanted to, and when I was at the counter, there was no line, just people with shopping carts huddled around the register going in random order. I was so frustrated I felt my throat/chest somehow get a lot tighter and I decided I'm done with the tradition for a while. I guess online shopping would make it much easier, but even then there's the question of what are you going to get everyone, and since it has to be something non-material for 90% of the people.. Screw it.

Tried going to the post office to pick up a missed delivery yesterday...parking lot full, cars double parked all up and down the driveway, line damn near out the door. It's crazy out there. Online shopping as much as possible ftw.
Also re: the gauntlet of friends and family: most of our family on both sides is local so it can get out of hand quickly with filling up the calendar. Tried to do it all last year (all the family! host an open house! see friends!) and we were exhausted by the end of the break...going back to work was almost a relief. Cutting way back and doing minimal commitments this year. Sure can escalate quickly. Gotta protect that open space on the calendar!
