DO NOT rely on the BPM counter. If you have one on your CDJ or mixer, cover it with tape. It only fucks you in the long run.

I'd like to buy a couple of turntables, to start trying to mix with them instead of my PC. Here at local stores I have seen 2 affordable models, the Numark TT1600 and Stanton STR8-20, at very similar prices. Do any of you have any experience with any of them? Any recomendations/suggestions/advise?

first try it out on other peoples decks( friends, family)
you must know a dj, ask him if you could try it out.
if this isn't an option for you well then youl just have to save a lot of money

I’am going to begin as a DJ in about 2 month’s and planning on spinning Trance mainly with some techno / progressive.
I had 2 of these CD-players in mind: link

An now looking for A mixer:

A came out to these 2:
- Stanton SMX-401
- Vestax PCV-175

I have read some problems with both of them, the X-fader of the SMX-401 has a dip (link), but you can PFL with the EQ with this one, and some other small handy things. The 175 should have the x-fader shit too, and a click with the kill-switches (link), but sounds better...

(BTW, I don’t like the pcv275, that golden color is just )

Wich one should you take and why ?

hey everyone i just bought sum turntables and a mixer and i'm wondering some really basic things that seemed to get overlooked in lots of the FAQ's and general explanations. For example I understand most about scratching... but I was wondering more about finding spots on the record. If i want to use a certain spot is the best way to find it to spin the record really fast and if i want to go back do i spin the record backwards fast to get to the spot. orrrr should i lift up the needle and move it to the spot... or does it not matter worth shit and i should just figure it out myself haha.
I'm just not sure what is bad for records and such, do any of these things reallly mess up the record or is it just over a long period of time. also when i'm using a sample off a record the motor should be off shouldnl't it so i can get the best control? I dunno stupid ass questions... but like i said ones that i haven't found addressed newhere, and i'm sure they have been b4 in a forum but i coudln't find any cuz the "search" mode was bringing any up for me, but if anyone finds others pleze give me a link to it. well i've just decided to get into both mixing and producing. I have had ideas for songs for a long time and thought i should stop thinking and get to doing before im old :P i was wondering which would be easiest to start off with? mixing or producing. Would one or the other help you learn the other one? eg would starting mixing help you with producing? or are they just totally different. ur opinions? thanks.

to tell you the truth, i don't think it really matters what way you start...cuz there's plenty of good examples of both ways available to you.

i think personally that it might be easier if you start mixing before you start producing. this will give you, the producer, a sense of the dj has to work with. for the most part the dj is gonna choose a song that has good energy/vibe and is easy to mix (but not always).

yer i've been lookin into gear and reading lots of reviews and i've settled on a Vestax mixer PCV-275 which meets more than some of the requirements that most DJ's say a mixer should meet. But i was tied for a second to buy that techno trance PCV-150 mixer not because of the name but cuz it was cheaper $100 or so

Turntables i thnk i'll get Technics cuz for the last 7 sites i've been to say great things about em, havin high torque, high rpm, etc... UM SLK-1200M*K or SLK-1200M*D which one is cheaper? i know that there both gonna be more than i need for a turntable for a n00b like me, so any diffs wont be too important at this stage. But Yer which would be cheaper and can anyong give me a price range for the turntable that is cheaper of those two series? THanks.

u you can find a pair of used technics m2k, that's all you really need to dj. most mixers by vestax are really good. i would also look into some of the digital numark mixers, or maybe even a behringer vmx 300.

as for headphones...dunno if most people would agree with me, but i would say stay away from sony. overrated in my opinion. find a nice pair of stantons, or if u have the cash....the pioneer hdj-1000s. maybe even look at sennheiser and the technics headphones...

the 700 is about $200.. considering the features and quality, it is a damn good deal. it is basically the djm600.. but way cheaper. if your budget is really limited maybe try some stanton mixers.. i have one and its worked pretty well for the past 3 years, but when i move back the US i will probably get a behringer 700. its good to learn on the best, it really helps.

I use Traktor Dj Mixer is very good and complete... you can + the pich or -... and many more.... and the best is that you can record the musical disaster that you have made...
