I'm still awake and just reflecting on my week of hiking in the chisos and guadalupe mountains. It was a great experience, but also made me sad because of all the pollution which mostly comes from American companies who operate factories in Mexico to avoid environmental regulations. They just dump their toxic waste into the Rio Grande river, and release it into the air without filters on the smoke stacks. It also comes from farms near the river who spray their fields with pesticides that runoff into the river. Of course with the Bush EPA (and Texas' version of EPA) they don't enforce anything because mostly only industry lobbyists were appointed. Bush also wants to turn the national parks and forrests over to commercial interests for them to rape. People around the world should be outraged about this because pollution released in one area doesn't stay in one small area due to the water cycle, and climatic forces.
I've decided after breathing the choking air, and being so close to the river that I could smell the sewage and industrial pollutants what I want to devote my life to...
I feel bad for all the people who live on the Rio Grande River. There are babies born with serious birth defects at the end of the river because of all the pollution in the area. Babies without limbs. Without brains. It's almost as bad as the Ganges in India.
Pics soon.
