Definitely at least at the entry level they're probably mostly bought by old geezers in a mid life crisis, then sold on to young male hooligans who do 100mph past primary schools and crash them into old geezers driving too slow to get out of the way.

Oh, those upper tier models are serious machines. American's make a lot of disposable rubbish cars, but the vettes and vipers aren't in the same league, especially considering they draw on help from companies like Lotus and Lamborghini to do some engineering from time to time.

Its $0.83 at the moment 
Import tax, luxury car tax, GST, on road fees, transfer fees... it piles on new cars. Probably costs BMW all of $200 to ship them here, but the market is 1/20th of the size of the US, demand isn't that high and people just sort of accept that they're going to get robbed buying it, probably carjacked for it at some point and utterly skinned alive for parts after the warranty runs out.
