You cannot be taken seriously because you are looking for excuses to bash America and you're predisposed against it. It's called bias. But then it should come as no surprise, because, as one American writer/journalist once noted, Canada defines itself as a country, as a counterweight to the US. (While the US defines itself as a country in more meaningful ways...)

The high rate of gun crime: The majority of gun crimes and violence is not in any ghettos. Statisticly domestic violence and murder is much much more common. The sollution to ghettos that are very violent is not to have more police but to target the poverty that creates such a situation. Another solution would be to ban the sale of guns. It's true some people would still buy them illegaly, but there would be many many less.

Legal system: I will refer to three examples. One was a kid who was 18 and was arrested selling one ounce of pot. This was his first offence and he was in college. He got 20 years in jail. Example two: That article someone posted where the person threw shit at a prison guard and got 50 years for it. Example three: If you are caught selling drugs within 100 metres of a housing project you recieve several additional years in jail. This is clearly very discriminatory against poor people, and since the majority of poor people in the states are black or espanic it is in effect racist.

gap between rich and poor: I judge this simply by looking at the gini index. This is the globaly recognized statistical measure of inequality and the U.S. does quite badly compared to other rich nations.

Civil Liberties: Im judging this based on powers of the FBI and CIA. And anti-drug and terrorist bills that allow your liberties to be completely suspended.

Jails: It has been clearly shown time and time again that putting people in jails does not lower crime. It doesn't deal with the problems that cause crime in the slightest. It such huge amounts of money that states are falling apart. In Florida they had to let schools out three weeks early because they couldnt afford to pay the teachers passed that. theres a bill in Texas to cut the school week to 4 days because theyve spent all their money on prisons.

You may be part of the lucky class of people in the States who has lots of money and these problems don't impact. But they do impact a lot of people and it's completelly ignorant to say just because you do fine it means that your country isn't a bad place overall.

lucky class? the fuck you smoking? im just another average middle class member of society...i live in a two story house, we got three cars...there are countless millions of other fellow american citizens living like that...its not like 90 percent of the american population are lower class poverty stricken people like in mexico...every country has its poor, middle class and rich people...for you to generalize on america and calling it a horrible place to live shows your true ignorance

first off...until today i barely ever posted in this forum...so i dont quite understand your statement about you never cease to be amazed by me...anyway i am not a tiesto14...i am not an overzealous patriotic ignorant flag waving american...i never supported GW hauling ass into iraq without ANY substantial reason other than saddam hussein is evil...so trust me im not misinformed

our government may be despicable RIGHT NOW...im not gonna argue with that...not once did i ever say i supported GW and his regime

i only started posting here because i was angered by unneeded bashing and ignorance towards america...look there is nothing wrong with criticism towards america considering everything that has happened is definetly debatable...but i couldn't ignore people calling america a horrible and despicable country because it is not
