*Bingo*... So true. Don't even try getting yourself into a relationship and trying to know that person if you're lost when it comes to your own self.

I prefer it in Latin, though... Nosce te ipsum.

That right there is very good advice. Not only are you doing the wrong thing for yourself if you bend to their will, but it also turns them off. One just told me today, "I like that you stand up for yourself." If you've got no individuality, then what good are ya in a relationship!?

That's what the first people who said "be yourself" really meant - don't give up your own interests/friends/whatever just to get the lovin'.

Frankly, I don't think women are that hard to understand (why should they be if men aren't?). As for me personally, I just don't bother in most cases because I don't have the patience (yes Emery, I'm BITTER ).

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA, that is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time

I guess I now have to talk about this Topic since I’m Posting

First things First, from my experience every girl that I have dated I meet through my friends (NOT all good otherwise I wouldn’t be single). Secondly, be who you are and Lastly Follow Newton’s Second Law of Motion( SINCE IM A GEEKY ENGINEER, and Hopefully its the right motion (wink wink) ), with every action their is an equal and opposite reaction, SO it is up to you to make an action or reaction BUT make sure to make one or the other.
A few examples(>>>Insert clearing throat sound<<<)

1. If a girl looks at you you can either look at her and smile (to show interest), look away(to show no interest) or look confused and confuse her

2. If a GIRL tries to start a conversation (which happens on the odd occasion) you can either talk back and hope you don’t sound stupid ( I am the king of Fucking up conversations ) or you can talk back just to be polite and give her the brush off or you can pretend you heard nothing or say you don’t speak English.

3. If you find a girl to be attractive you can go up to her and do what come natural(which is strike up a conversation) or you can tell you friend to go up to her(if you were in Grade 7 or lower cause your a KID ) or you can do nothing and SPEND the rest of the night dreaming of what could have been and sulking

Im going to stop, cause I can make up situations forever

SO THE Choice is yours to either initiate or to respond in a given situation

BEST OF LUCK, and Never dwell upon one little Thing that never was

Whatever will be, will be. If it's wrong, it's wrong, if it's right, it's right.

I'm not here to glorify fate in the most extreme of cliches, but I can honestly say I've lived my life accordingly and have nothing but great fortune come my way. (knock on wood)

Anyone who knows me (outside of this board) might be rolling their eyes at me because I could come off as a hypocrite. Seeing as these last few months have been stormers in terms of relationship/love etc.

I'm the biggest suck / hopeless romantic (MALE) you will ever meet. And I can tell stories about fate for days. In the end, my words of advice are to "know thyself" (in the words of Plato) and to balance your life accordingly especially in terms of relationships and love.

That's basically what I tried saying, but yours is worded better

I've found in my previous relationship that anything that goes wrong, will usually teach you something about yourself and your partner. You can't be ignorant however to what's happening around you, so rather than just saying "ah fuckit" you should reflect back and see what went wrong, why, and try to reason both sides. Sometimes we're the jerks, sometimes the girls are (all depending on the person) but always and ALWAYS remmeber to draw a positive conclusion.

This way if a long and meaningful relationship goes to waste, you'll learn quickly, adapt, and move on to greener pastures. IT was probably not meant to be anyways

Bah, enough of this "meant to be"-ness. You choose your own fate. Take control! But they're right about one thing, don't stick with someone if you know they're not working out, it'll only end in stress and lost time (and heartbreak, if you're a sap).

Anyway, I think this thread was more about breaking the ice, so let's keep it on track.

Yeah, good point, you still have to make sure you have the balls to approach that person, and if you don't...well, then wave that "special someone" a nice goodbye, and go back to the rut :P Lesson: gotta have the guts to approach, and gotta stop looking since the chance to pick them up will come when it's supposed to end of story!

Well listen they both go hand in hand. I believe that if you make a decision to "chose your own fate" you're ultimately doing what is "meant to be".

I also subscribe to the theory that just because you KNOW something is meant to be, doesn't mean you can just sit back and watch it roll in. At many times you still have to work at the inevitable, just be happy you can see the end result and try to patient enough to roll with it.

EX: I bet you Gretzky knew at like age 5 he was incredible in terms of natural hockey talent and possibly going to be "the best". But he still had to work and "choose his own fate" to make sure whatever was "meant to be" would thus occur. Am I just talking shit? hah
