i think the argument that most albums only have 2-3 good songs only applies to mainstream music anyways... and they're the only people who are really suffering... wow, some big popstar lost a few thousand dollars to downloaders, big deal... you know what the REAL reason for that is? the only 2 good songs from his/her albums get played 20x a day on the radio anyways... why the hell would anyone buy the album?

the answer to the problem lies in independant music... i buy tons of CDs from bands i like... most of them are on small labels. those labels don't screw with their music, or force them into multi-record deals. the result is QUALITY music. i'm quite satisfied with most of the CDs i buy.

if a band is contractually required to release X number of albums, then in most cases, the albums get watered down just so they can have enough material to finish the album... add that to the fact that most big popstars don't even have artistic control over much of their music anyways, and in most cases don't write lyrics or melody and you can see why nobody will shed a tear for these big label babies. the only people i might feel sorry for are the no-namers who actually write the music and lyrics behind the scenes...

does the music industry think we're gonna keep choking down their manufactured popstar garbage forever? survival of the fittest... the current state of music is garbage, and if it burns, something better will come out of it.

^^^^ Soulseek is shite most of the time though...the search engine is pure crap and the speeds are laughable! I tested it with my friend (both of us have Rogers cable internet) and the best speed we could get was 12kbps. It's a good program, but lame too.

Bingo! I think overall, the world music scene has been deteriorating lately, mainly the mainstream music. Looks what happened to rock music - from Pink Floyd (AWESOME band) to Slipknot (dirt!) ... holly hell. Hip Hop music = from Run DMC (GREAT rapper!) to Eminem (WTF?). And most people actually dig that junk! POP - from ABBA (great) to Christina Aguilera - WTF?

I think this is one of the reasons why many of us decided to explore Electronic Dance Music and then found that it was great stuff indeed.

Now that's your own opinion... I find soulseek to be "THE shit". I can find whatever I want on it, from latest promos and unreleased songs to the old and ancient tunes, with decent speeds (and I get speeds up to 100 kb/s, again depending who you're downloading off), plus there are no annoying banners and whatnot. It serves its purpose perfectly... and I am laughing (being on Rogers cable too).

the odd time I get good speeds off people, but most of the time it's less than 12kbps, whereas on Kazaalite, I'm minimum 100kbps. Soulseek is awesome, don't get me wrong...but it's frustrating the majority of the time in my experience. It often takes patience I don't have.
