We got to the club around 1:45 and the first thing that shocked me was lack of line - there were maybe 50 people in line or so. Usually, even if you pull up to PvD set 2 hours late, you still see a pretty substantial line, usually starting at the corner of West Street. That was actually a head scratcher - "what the hell? where are all the people? Did PvD show get cancelled?" Once we were in, my fears were relieved. PvD was on. The stuff he was playing at the time was hard - I couldn't tell if it was techno or prog - didn't really matter. I wondered around, met some people and ended up near the stage, where I got to say hi to Arturo and watched Edgar V get kicked off the stage for little while. Then, Danny T sneaked up behind PvD - I didn't know he was a fan.
Overall, for some reason I didn't feel the vibe in the crowd like before. Many people were dancing and having a good time but for some reason I felt that overall vibe wasn't really there. Overall, I would say that this set was 4/10. Like many said here - it lacked the flow, the speakers were out of wack - you could actually stand on one end of the bar and hear the reverb from the opposite corner - sounded like beats were not matched, on top of everything the sound wasn't as crisp as it normally is, it was rather distorted.
I didn't really care for track selection - didn't hear anything that really grabbed me. But that's just me. I think we're getting spoiled by easy access to new sets. Before, the novelty was the rush - now it is like "man, this song is sooo old".
I did like one song where there are male vocals "I feel you" - but I don't think it was a MarcoV song. He actually played that "I feel you" in male vocals and then it transitioned into Marco V's "I feel you". Can someone id that song? Also, great tunes were:
Ocean to Shore, Clear Blue Water, NuNRG tune (can't remember), and that slow song in the encore that kind of sounded like slow version of "crush" - Can anyone ID that?
One other funny thing - I bet my friend that PvD would play "nothing but you" at least once and then in encore he'd play it again. Let's say I paid off my drinks.
Overall, I wish I saved some energy on Friday to see Ferry on Saturday.
See you in April for Armin!
