glad you liked home. it's definitely one of the best clubs here in syd, but you should see it on a trance night with the lasers going off!

ok next local events will be
/ RUSH Launch Party @ icebox / and / A Night Of Trance @ ARQ /. Dang, both on the same night.. May 14th

both feature a few of our own AU.TA's on the decks so check out either (or both if you're really keen)!

That was probably me, I'll try and checkout one of those parties although I don't know which one. Sugestions?

Come to ANOT

Not that I'm biased because Chookie and I are playing or anything.

Oh, and it's in a heaps cooler club Massive lighting setup, there'll be a really great atmosphere, and before anyone says anything, this is a very rare thing, being as the club is normally "gay", this is very much a straight event.

It was only their 2nd ever party and they told me Tiesto has got them hooked on trance. They've only ever been to hi-nrg parties before this(god bless their souls ), but has been converted. Don't think they can wait for the next trance event to come along either. Such is the power of TIESTO!!

Hi guys, I wrote some stuff but didn't have the chance to post earlier. So here it is.

Pete tong's set mostly bored me... it was very minimal... though there were other things that kept me entertained enough to stick around on the dancefloor... I wouldv'e gone running around the place meeting up with friends like I usually do but it seemed like too much effort. I was content with staying put around just one group of friends. Towards the end of Pete Tongs's set he played some very nice progressive house... beautiful vocals and melodies... blissful twinkly sounds. It would have been heavenly if the rest of his set was like that. He ended with Rui Da silva - Touch me, which I like.

Tiesto's set was quite pumping in comparison to Pete Tong's... just judging by the difference in styles, the two should not have been billed at the same event. Obviously Tiesto's set was the highlight of my and most other people's night. He played some massive tunes... the highlight of his set would probably be Afterburn - North Pole.

I'm not into Tiesto's techy stuff, so it was a bit up and down for me. When it was uplifting and melodic, it was great... and so I wandered up the front to find some of you guys. I didn't see many of you on the night, I thought quite a few of you would be at the front but I didn't see you guys there! I guess it was quite crowded, but that doesn't bother me too much... I expect and accept it.

Comparing to Armin earlier in the year, I think as an event Armin was far better. We got 5 hours from the guy (Melbourne got 6) for around $40, i.e. better value for money time-wise. It was also much more trance-focused; I'm glad we didn't have to endure any boring minimal house music. Armin does not deviate much from the uplifting melodic trance (though he may play some soft and slow progressive tracks, e.g. to start off a set as he did). Tiesto on the other hand has often been deviating to techy stuff. I don't find his tracks Traffic and Flight 643 uplifting either (though I don't mind them). The "world's number 1 DJ" tag isn't important to me; I still see Armin as a much more reliable DJ for the music I passionately crave, so in my eyes Armin is number 1, and tiesto or Ferry Corsten might be number 2.

Tiesto played on for quite a while longer, up to 6:15am I think. Afterwards, Jumping Jack played an uplifting trance set, which included the beautiful Havanah - Havanah, and Rapid Eye - Circa Forever (RE remix) (played twice in the same set - weird). I enjoyed the set, it was a far cry from the emotionless hard stuff he would usually play at Voodoo.

I liked the screens and visuals... scenes of flying across the night city sky; busy traffic in Japan (which I think should have been played during DJ Tiesto - Traffic); words and phrases flashing on the screen ("transcend", "explore", "you are here"... how philosophical); colourful psychedelic patterns.

But there were no lasers! I think it was predominantly a house music event, and lasers don't generally go with house. I think the people who put on the event were more focused on the hype and profit that comes along with the "World's number 1 DJ" tag than catering specifically for the different kinds of crowds that the various styles of music attract. Tiesto does not belong at a house music event! Did you guys notice any disparity between house music fans and the tranceheads who were there primarily for Tiesto?

I wasn't close enough to the front to see Jumping Jack while Tiesto was playing, but it doesn't seem right that he would do such a thing as interfere with Tiesto's set or tell him to hurry up. Tiesto would be a DJ he would look up to and respect since Jumping Jack himself is starting to play uplifting trance. I won't put Jumping Jack in the bad books unless there is concrete evidence... e.g. if Tiesto himself states what happened. He is innocent until proven guilty.

well.. he did venture into harder progressive and tribal elements, maybe a bit of tech, during the middle 2 hrs of his 5hr set (people complained about it boring them) and Armin is following in the steps of what seems to be current trend amongst djs.. a mix between prog, tech and trance (refer to his interview, posted somewhere in music discussion forum).. but imo I still think that he's the man when it comes to pumping up a crowd. Tiesto does it well too, but it really was the wrong crowd/event. The "magik" wasn't there.

A few of us were up the front (or as close as we could be) at different times. Being squashed like sardines was no fun, with people pushing/breathing/sweating on you.. it was hard to enjoy. So a bunch of us spent a reasonable amount of time up on the level above in the "TA VIP" area. I remember you looking up at one point during Tiesto's set and we were all cheering at you
