My long ass post
I'm finally getting around to posting my "review". Since I've been putting it off I'm going to write a lot. This is going to be LONG so if you aren't in the mood for reading please pass on this post.
Matt and I got into Miami and to our hotel a little before 8pm. Right as we were walking into the lobby KOzOK (Maciej) called. He was staying at the same hotel and we ended up being booked next door to each other...adjoining rooms. We went across the street to get something to eat. Matt and I came back to relax a little and Maciej went to hang out. Around 11pm we decided to head over to Space. I talked to [eks] Ben and texted with Arturo. When we first got to Space the main room was closed. After stading there for a while they let us in prematurely and we were ushered upstairs. I didn't know where anyone was so we just hung out there until the place started to fill up. We eventually went downstairs and almost immediately Maciej found Phil (Vero). After that I met Arturo, Bling, Harold, Damon, Ben, Dark Angel, Phil, Ryan, Cybertrance, and tons of others. I already knew Neil.
Ferry blew that place up. Except for the sound going out twice his set was flawless. He was totally into his set and into the crowd. Did he ever love that freaking horn! I loved his interaction with us. You know he was enjoying every minute of it...waiting to see our responses to each song. I loved that he sang along to the vocal tracks...putting his arms up just like us...singing back to us. How many DJ's do that? We would bow to him and he point at us and then bow back. The first track to get my attention was Forever by Smith & Pledger (vocal remix). Ok...others obviously got my attention, but I wasn't expecting to hear this one. That was my first time hearing that out in a club and seeing that it's on my webpage you know that I love that song! Other vocal tracks...Holding Onto Nothing, Love Comes Again, Force of Gravity, etc. He played Sahara, Synaesthesia, Circulation, Indigo, Sublime, Right Of Way, Punk, etc. Ferry owned ME when he ended the night with two old school trance songs. 2nd to last was Carte Blanche. It seems like it was only yesterday when I first heard that song back in 1999. Damn the memories...he took me back! The last song's ID escapes me! It is from around the same time period. I have it on a CD somewhere but I haven't had the time to search for it. Ferry was nothing short of amazing.
I should have told you guys one thing about me. When I go to a "show" I am there to see the artist. I'm not one to socialize or walk around as I would if it was just a normal night out to the club. I don't view it as a "nightclub experience". I don't drink and I'm not there to meet a guy so the music and the DJ are what gets me "high". I learned a long time ago how much of an impact interaction with the DJ can have on your night. As you could probably tell from Saturday night...I get in a zone. I feed off the DJ and Ferry's energy was intoxicating. 5 1/2 hours didn't seem long enough.
We left after Ferry finished spinning and we walked back to our hotel. Nice walk at almost 7am when your legs are killing you. I couldn't sleep because I still had so much energy pumping through me so damn was I tired when I finally got home at 6pm.
If you read up to here...thanks! The rest is to individual people.
Matt...who would have thought when we were growing up that we would end up liking the exact same music?! I started listening to EDM back in the early 90's. You did too, but not like I did. I was hardcore by 1995 and I was obsessed with trance starting by 1998. I'm so glad that I turned you on to all of this music because it has been fun as hell having my own brother to do road trips with me. We love Ferry, Armin, Tiesto, and Paul van Dyk...you damn right! I love you! I had a blast at Space and I'm sorry that your back was hurting at the end of the night!
Maciej...I'm sorry that we didn't spend more time together once we were at the club. You are a very cool person and I enjoyed hanging out with you. Thanks for going to dinner with us!
Arturo...you and I met once before but seeing that you didn't remember it was like meeting you all over again for the first time. You are a sweetheart...very easy to be around! You and I are definitely going to be friends.
Bling...you are a sweetheart too! I loved our little chat when I had to sit down. Sorry that I jumped back up, but Ferry was going off! We will definitely hang out again!
Harold...how much more interesting my night was having you next to me screaming your head off! You, me, and Cybertrance were right in front of Ferry and you just can't beat the interaction that we had with him. I'm sure that he would have looked at me from time to time seeing that I was standing right in front of him, but some of the shit that you would do was funny as hell. You had him laughing...you had me laughing. I thought today about how much different our experience was compared to the people in the back of the club. Seeing Ferry's face light up and how much our enthusiasm affected him made how much my feet hurt totally worth it. You were a blast to hang with and I would do it again anytime.
Damon...we didn't chat much at the club (according to you that was all my fault!) but we have some since then and you seem to be a cool guy.
Dark Angel...Mr. Standoffish! I was standing right next to you for how long? The only interaction we really had was when I thought you were going to have a heart attack when Ferry played Force of Gravity.
Ben...my head still hurts! How many times did you hit me? I'm just playing with you!
Ryan...I've met you before through Neil. You and Neil are definitely cool people. I'm glad that we spoke more this time around!
Neil...have you ever noticed that the only time that I ever see you is at a show? Much love! XOXO
Cybertrance...you and Harold are a trip.
Phil...I only spoke with you briefly but you were obviously having a good time!
Suzy & lil B...I saw your asses in the DJ booth....grrrr. I love you both!
Thank you to all of the FLTA's...I had the most amazing time! You guys are great!
