| quote: | | The point is your not using original vinyl for each song (which was specified in the thread), in other words your using your computer with wave files and only one piece of vinyl (Vinyl Scratch) on each table to cue your track, which isn't the same thing as mixing vinyl. You may beat match the same way but is still not what real DJing is all about. What would happen if you were in a venue with thousands of people or even a club with less, and suddenly, (OH HOLY HELL MY PC CRASHED), you would be screwed. A real DJ wouldn't have that problem, and that is what this contest was about. Real DJ's using real equipement, not computers with wave files or mp3's. THATS THE POINT, GET IT!!! It's not the same thing. |
I would love to list the many DJs who use Final Scratch, but let me just mention PvD, Josh Wink, Chris Lawrence. You're right these guys arent "real" Djs. I am aginst using the product for MP3 mixing (especially dled MP3s), but if you actually bought the vinyl and recorded it to your laptop...why can't you use it? IMO its much more convenient than taking a stack of records around. I've seen PvD 3 times now and his sets (using FS) have never crashed. On the rare occasion there is a system crash you can always switch over to regular vinyl or cd mixing (hence its a good idea to have maybe a CD of tracks or 2-3 vinyls extra). And it is just like vinyl mixing. The only difference is you're not physically taking vinyls off the tables you're just taking that time to assign tracks to the different decks.
I understand your point of view as well. Many people are not eager to accept new technologies. 4-5 years ago everyone looked down upon CD decks, but now almost every top DJ uses CDs in their sets. I think the same is true w/ FS and other emerging technologies.
