how is this thread still alive?

oakenfold was good ..
i say the mid to late 90's.
his production skills i will say is not the best of quality, but his mixing skills is something to talk about now and then.
i guess you can say his skills have diminished as of late.

I would be interested to know the amount of Americans who now listen to Trance BECAUSE of Paul Oakenfold. I bet a lot of them are now those complaining. I was under the impression that the US was not very up on its dance music until Oakey started touring back in the late nighties and 2000. That was his aim - for America to 'catch' up with Europe. I think he probably plays to many sets over there. Whenever he returns to the UK he is top notch. That is not too say paying people deserve a bad show, they don't.

I have spoken to Oakey, he was sitting in my favourite spot on the Pacha terrace so I had to sit opposite - he smiled and started talking to us. He seemed warm and friendly (maybe high?? not that I could tell) I asked him if he still had a copy of Tekknova, he said he didn't. The rest was chit chat. He took a fancy to a mates girlfriend, she joined him for a joint after his set and he tried to make her go back to his villa. He was engaged to his wife by this point, so yes - he is a Cock. Sometimes.

Do you not think that that commands some respect. Sure thousands of other DJ's and artists have taken it somewhere else, but look at the big picture.

Oh and Oakey started BT's career.

No Sasha 'started' Bt's career actually. Did you forget about Sasha's Voyage of ima ?

There was already a thriving electronic music scene in Germany before oakenfold 'invented music'. Just because he opened the eyes of british people who were behind the times means nothing. Sasha, Digweed, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman etc etc etc were already around and doing their own thing. Oakey had no impact on these people whatever.

Only stupid people would credit oakenfold with things like 'shaping the scene' and 'starting Bts career' - it is just plain and simple idiocy. Open your eyes ffs, one man on his own does not make a scene. He was one of many, and the one that MAYBE brought things to mainstream attention. That doesnt mean it wouldnt have happened anyway.

For some reason I didn't even like Oakenfold before I found out why he sucks.

Except we invented House and what today is known as Techno long before Oakey decided to "save" us. You know what? The rest of the world isn't up on its House music. We made it, it existed before trance, we're the best at it, and we have the best scene. That doesn't mean you aren't up on your "dance" music. You just suck at House, nothing wrong with that.

His aim was to get rich.
