young = 14 - 21

I would think that once most people hit 21 they would have grown out of tiesto? although in the UK the age at which you can actually get into clubs is a bit more advanced.

Actually I have to sort of agree here, Tiesto does have A LOT of young fans. Having said that, he does also have a lot of older fans too. The reason for this is that becasue he gets a lot of attention, Tiesto is often the introduction to trance for a lot of people. As a result, they think he's really good, but as time goes on their horizons broaden a bit and they move off into sub genres. There are also older fans though, who remember Tiesto BEFORE he was no. 1, and have stuck true, much like you following a sports team when they were the up and comers, they won a couple of premierships and heaps of people jumped on board, but now they aren't going so well but they have the reputation so new peole still support them until they realise that maybe there are other better teams and change allegiances, and the old fans wish for a return to what was.

Let’s be honest. Good music like good wine takes a lot of time and effort to find. You can't expect your average clubber to do the dirty work of finding the next big thing. They expect the club promoters and owners to do that for them. Clubber want to get drunk and hit on girls.

That said.

I think a large part of the blame should go to the club promoters who bring in bullshit DJ's to the clubs and help create the bullshit club culture which is more of a show rather than an appreciation of the art form which is EDM.

They're are a few clubs in Chicago which have done their fair share to rebuild EDM in Chicago but hundreds still remain in the dark ages. As a result the typical Chicago clubber only knows of Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, and Armin and the tunes they play.

Also.

It’s the media outlets in the cities which promote shitty music. Here in Chicago we have no dance music station at all. Just rap and hip-hop. We did awhile ago but it was filled with euro-cheese and shitty bad boy bill sets. This did not help to create the ‘educated’ clubber one hopes for.

Let me very honest with you.

I think all DJ's have shitty qualities. I have yet to find one DJ that is perfect. As you know Laushinameee I told you many times before the qualities of PVD I don't like. And others have heard me bitch about Tiesto, Armin, etc. As a result I just decided to buy records myself and play shit I like. Fuck hoping to try to find a person that will play tracks you like. Just do it yourself. I think it’s futile to try to find that perfect DJ.

I was having this discussion tonight - someone like westbam, plays some amazing records. I've never heard him play something i dislike - occasionally he'll play something that isnt amazing, but thats about it. He plays some spectacular records.

Am not gonne read the whole topic

But you said, Number 1 dj means he is good.

Thats a huge mistake, Number 1 means your famous not good, remember the djmag top 100 is a popularity contest.

Hi all.. this is my first post..
ive been reading this board for a few days now and I have came across alot of tiesto bashing.. and I will just like to give my 2 cents..

first the people who are saying that tiesto cant mix and doesnt deserve his #1 ranking. well I have something to say about that, keep reading..

second.. the people who say he plays cheese.. ok I wont object to that.. yes he does play cheese from time to time.. BUT do you know why??

and third.. people who say tiesto is not even a real good DJ.. and his track selection has been off when some people have attended his live gigs..

well I am going to try and defend these negative remarks about him..

first of all,, Tiesto is a Dj who is in extreme demand.. he probably plays over 100 shows a year and every show cant be as good as the last or beter than them all.. alot of those days is like the title another day at the office.. so he is not going to rip it up..
he is only human.. but he still puts in a show for the majority.. just there will always be some people out there in the crowd who have heard better and its not up to standard..

his track selection.. well ok.. yes, he is number 1 again.. and he is probably alittle arrogant about it.. just as oakie was..
so he doesnt feel like he has to perform so much now.. kinda lost the hunger.. but he still turns out a professional set..
number one doesnt mean every show and track has to be EPIC..

he plays cheese ok I cant say much about this except.. people love it! hahahaha its true.. look at the rankings.. I know I know..but the stats speak for it self.. so play what sells..
of course for many not listening to cheese or commercial hits kinda means you are real hardcore.. not a lollipop novice like so many others.. so we talk about non commercial tracks and less cheese tracks which you wont hear on some cheesy remix cd...

but that doesnt mean he is a bad Dj..

becuase the fact is.. tiesto is number one becuase he is THAT GOOD!
he might be abit of a sell out now.. but most of the top djs do sell out as do all stars... hip hop etc....
they turn commercial and start to play radio hits and get sloppy..

BUT!!
the fact is.. if tiesto wanted to HE could do a set that would blow all the djs away and have us all dancing like freaks and then at the end of it we will be saying OH MY GOD!! please someone pick up my jaw it just hit the floor.. if he wanted too.. becuase he is that good!

he has the talent and the skills.., its just that he is not really using them so often on the decks for the likes of us trance junkies
he spends lot of time in the studio making the commercial cheese that will go number 1 all over europe and make him millions..
but hey.., thats no reason to be dissing him..
the guy can mix.. and we all know this..
anyway thanks for listening..
thats all I have to say about tiesto..
I think the guy is great.. of course I dont listening to him often
but I think he needed some defence.. too much bashing..
IF tiesto came to my city I would go see him.. I guess most of you all would too..
maybe alot of you are angry that he is not doing what he is capable of doing.. or maybe a lot of you just do think he is garbage haahha
to each there own huh..
well anyway..

oh my, that was fucking funny, yer a real funny guy

anyway what would a tiesto thread be without ME!!!!!

anyway, I've seen him twice, amazing the first time, shit the second and I argue he can mix and do better than the poor effort he is showing these days. That's all...continue the idiocy

If you like Tiesto, fine. I'm not going to give you shit for that, it's your choice. Why don't I like him? Well, for one thing, I personally do not like his style of music at all, but that's not why. There are a lot of DJs/producers who I do not care for at all, but still have a good deal of respect for. Tiesto gets on my nerves because his popularity is ridiculously bloated.

I don't care that he can sell thousands of tickets and fill stadiums. Britney Spears and 50 Cent can do that. I don't care that he played at the Olympics. So what? He provided background music for the athletes. Great for him, but remind me again, how this makes him a better DJ, and how this makes his sets better. It doesn't.

There are many fantastic DJs out there who can mix circles around him, both technically and selection wise. There are guys like Hawtin, Clarke, Zabiela, Phil K, Cox, Glaude, and many others, who have done all sorts of incredible, revolutionary things with their mixing, and Tiesto gets voted #1 for mixing two tracks back to back, and he can barely do that these days. What's more, is that he used to be able to mix pretty well and construct a good set back in the day, which means he's either going deaf, or isn't trying (and enjoying the easy cash).

What bothers me is that he gets praised and paid like a pop star, while better DJs have trouble just making it. Not to mention, the arrogant newbie fans of his who think they know everything (and before someone starts, no, this is not a direct attack at anyone on this forum).

People have bashed Tiesto, because he's narcissic,
and has NO SPECIAL REASON to think his sh*t doesn't
stink. His sets are crap in the past 2 years.
