but umm... then wat te hell do the bars (above the 1 and the 2), in the photos I took do then? because all i know is that they control the volume of the two differnt CDS that are playing. I use them to mach up volume, so when i fade, i don't have to worry about it being loud/soft and having it sound weird becasue all the sudden the volume needs to change.... i don't understand, because this si exactly wat u said gain does bro...

lol, nice diagram
although i feel you are still missing what i am trying to say.... when djing, not everyone uses the crossfader to bring tracks in out. in fact i would say probably MOST people use the channel faders (which is what you have highlighted as "gain controls??" on your pic) and leave the crossfader in the middle, unless they are cutting or scratching. essentially, the channel faders and gain controls do actually do the same thing, but if you can imagine the sound going through the gain control then into the fader, this is how it works. when you match both tracks volume with the gain control, you don't have to have the 2 channel faders at different levels.
imagine 2 tracks, one is recorded at 50dB, and the other is recorded at 56dB, if you slam both faders right up, one track is going to be louder than the other. with gain control you can alter the original volume, so that when you put both faders righ tup, they are both at the same level.
