And no one taught me how to beat-match/mix so I'm pretty much on my own here.

My coworker just ripped an lcd panel appart and is looking at the different screens ( fresnel, lenticular etc )

If you rotate some of them and put them at a certain angles it makes some patterns

How exciting.

dude either someone start a " I'm bored at work let's talk random stuff " thread or else I'll keep posting these random ramblings in random threads.

Right now I'm trying to read
Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea

The seemingly impossible Zen task--writing a book about nothing--has a loophole: people have been chatting, learning, and even fighting about nothing for millennia. Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea, by noted science writer Charles Seife, starts with the story of a modern battleship stopped dead in the water by a loose zero, then rewinds back to several hundred years BCE. Some empty-headed genius improved the traditional Eastern counting methods immeasurably by adding zero as a placeholder, which allowed the genesis of our still-used decimal system. It's all been uphill from there, but Seife is enthusiastic about his subject; his synthesis of math, history, and anthropology seduces the reader into a new fascination with the most troubling number.

etc
etc

Great math/philisophical book.

It's making me doze off.
I've never been able to read more then 5 pages in a row.

to repeat what many people have said over the years but in a highly reduced form, people fall mostly into one of the two categories:

1. Cannot accept digital mixing cos it detracts from the technical skill and would flood the market with technically unskilled 'DJs' but who's mixes sound as good quality.

2. Want to sacrifice technical ability totally and want pure perfection in mixing allowing skilled 'eDJs' to relpace those vinyl spinning trogladites

a tad biased i know, you probably guessed i belong to the second camp

I think some people are confused about what exactly Sasha and others are doing behind the laptop. He isn’t just loading his mp3s and auto-beatmatching w/ a simple click. Ableton is a live sequencer. In other words it’s a live music-production system so he's actually creating new and interesting variations on songs. This is much more exciting to me than standard bpm mixing between tracks. Also this isn’t the same as someone pre-recording a CD of songs and just playing them.
I mean let’s be honest here. For years now we’ve heard the same old bpm matching between tracks; one fades out another comes in. Yet they're basically the same tracks we can stay at home and listen to. Something like ableton opens up many more possibilities. It reminds me of a live band in a way; the artist can come up w/ a unique and exciting track or variations of the track on the spot.

and in response to this quote ina previous post...

Over 30 years??? Just how old is Sasha lol
I always thought he was in his mid-30s...so he started djing right out of the womb?
